announced that Penguin Computing, delivering complete, integrated HPC solutions from the workstation to the
cloud, has selected the Dot Hill AssuredSAN 3000 Series as a component for
its HPC storage solutions.

Under the
terms of the agreement, Penguin will leverage Dot Hill’s AssuredSAN 3000 Series
storage systems. Offering 8Gb Fibre Channel, 10Gb iSCSI and 6Gb SAS host
interface options, the AssuredSAN 3000 Series is optimized for Linux
environments and supports demanding workloads and performance with five
9’s of availability, using Dot Hill’s patented technologies.

Recently
recognized as one of the 50 fastest growing private companies in Silicon Valley
by the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal, Penguin has been an innovator
in HPC solutions for more than a decade. With a focus on cutting-edge
technology, ease-of-use and  customer service, Penguin
cost-effectively meets the needs of world’s most demanding HPC users,
including Caterpillar, Lockheed Martin, the U.S. Air Force, and the U.S. Navy.

Penguin
delivers a range of solutions, from Linux clusters to cluster
management solutions based on Penguin’s Scyld ClusterWare, to ‘Penguin
Computing on Demand’ (POD), a new public HPC cloud. Typical configurations
include Penguin branded servers, I/O nodes, 10GigE or IB fabric, racks,
power delivery, storage subsystem and installation and professional services.

Penguin will
offer the performing 3003 models primarily with SAS host
interfaces, in 2U/12 and 2U/24 storage solutions with drives. The drives will encompass
all drive types and spindle speeds (including SSD in some cases) depending on
customer needs.

"Dot Hill’s
Assured architecture makes it easy for OEM partners to build cost effective and
robust storage solutions to meet the needs and requirements of the markets they
serve. In the case of Penguin Computing, this means high performance and low
cost storage solutions designed for everything from cloud applications to
first, second or third tier storage,
" said Garrett Wein , vice president
of OEM sales, Dot Hill.

"Our customers look to us for customized,
build-to-order Linux-based data center and supercomputing solutions delivered
both on premise and/or as a cloud-based service,
" said Phil Pokorny,
CTO, Penguin Computing. "Dot Hill’s
AssuredSAN 3000 Series offers a number of key technology innovations that
support performance, scalability and redundancy that make it ideal for
fault-tolerant computing, where downtime is not an option.
"

Dot Hill
AssuredSAN 3000 Series arrays offer support for 8Gb FC SANs, 10Gb iSCSI, as well as other interface options. In addition, Dot Hill continues to add midrange capability
and value to its 3000 Series with options such as AssuredRemote data management
software for remote replication. Advanced data management such as AssuredCopy,
Dot Hill’s volume copy technology, enabling the creation of independent data
volume copies for additional data protection, and Dot Hill ‘s AssuredSnap
snapshot capability for data availability and business continuity,
allow companies to reduce the burden of meeting modern data retention policies.
The AssuredSAN 3000 systems can scale to a total of 288 terabytes of storage
with JBOD expansion units.

The
AssuredSAN 3000 Series features a number of eco-friendly enhancements such as
drive spin-down capability and 595-watt 80 PLUS-rated (greater than 80 percent
energy efficiency) power supplies for reduced operating costs. Additionally,
the AssuredSAN 3000 Series also features patented EcoStor ‘green’ battery-free alternative for cache memory, which leverages a
combination of super capacitors and flash memory that outlasts traditional
batteries nearly fivefold. Business benefits include lower maintenance and
disposal costs and reduced server and application down time due to scheduled
battery replacement and maintenance.
