300GB under management

announced that Ledcor Group,
a North American construction company, has purchased its Metalogix
StoragePoint solution to manage its SharePoint content database.
By utilizing
Metalogix StoragePoint, Ledcor has been able to optimize content sharing with
Microsoft SharePoint across multiple offices and regions while ensuring that
its large files were offloaded and secure.
Found in
1947, North American-based Ledcor Group is a leading privately-held,
employee-owned collection of construction companies specializing in building,
civil, industrial and telecommunications projects.
For its more than 5,000
employees and 30 offices, Ledcor uses Microsoft SharePoint as its company-wide
collaboration and communication solution. With large contracts, project plans,
photographs and construction drawings, the company’s data files grew too large
to manage and Ledcor had resorted to insecure backup methods for its
information. With Metalogix StoragePoint, Ledcor found the solution to
offload its large unstructured data, known as Binary Large Objects (BLOBs), to
lower cost storage tiers and free up much-needed space in the content database.
"We needed to enable our users to store large
files in SharePoint, but we were not prepared to do that," said Gordon
Bone, manager of applied technology, Ledcor. "With all of our BLOBs going into the SQL database, our users were
limited to files that were no larger than 15MB. This meant that they had to put
those large files somewhere else, risking effective data protection and
recovery by using storage locations that are outside our typical protection
process and policies."
Since
implementing StoragePoint, Ledcor can store files as large as 250MB in
SharePoint, or 15 times larger than the previous limit. With more than 300GB
now under SharePoint management, the construction company is able to deploy
SharePoint as its standard technology for project collaboration, with all data to protect and find. Because StoragePoint consolidated its content into
much fewer databases, Ledcor has seen an increase in performance with
quicker search and index results and a reduction in backup windows time. In
addition, Ledcor benefits from ongoing cost savings from the StoragePoint
solution and the end users are more happy and productive.
"For customers like Ledcor, Metalogix offers
the leading remote BLOB storage and archive solution that gives them the
ability to store that data to alternate tiers of storage, including the cloud,"
said Steven Murphy, CEO Metalogix. "Ledcor
has been able to consolidate its SharePoint content into fewer content
databases, which has allowed it to radically improve search and index results
and reduce backup windows to minutes, not hours. Ledcor also has a more
cost-effective SharePoint environment thanks to the capabilities of
StoragePoint that allow unstructured BLOBs to be stored on less expensive
storage tiers."
