EMC Corporation announced that
AeroSpec, Inc., a developer and manufacturer of automated and semi-automated
production equipment for manufacturing processes, selected EMC VNXe unified
storage and VMware vSphere virtualization solutions to
improve system performance, efficiency, simplicity and data availability while reducing operating costs in a virtualized private
cloud infrastructure.
Customer
Benefits:
- Return on Investment: AeroSpec expects to
achieve a return on investment of its VNXe within one-year. - Increased Efficiency: VNXe thin
provisioning improved storage utilization by 75%. - Increased Simplicity and Agility: Test
environments are created in one-minute with VNXe compared to several weeks,
while time spent on storage and server administration has decreased by 80%. - Improved Performance: The unified storage
environment has doubled AeroSpec’s system performance and data access speeds
including access to its Exchange environment-in a 100% virtualized environment.
As AeroSpec’s
formerly DAS infrastructure grew, its IT department
was becoming more concerned about data redundancy and downtime risks. Its
previous IT configuration included a rack of servers that each had its own
unique storage. Data availability, data redundancy, and backup were areas for
concern for AeroSpec, which has an IT infrastructure that stores hundreds of
thousands of digital engineering drawings online. Additionally, the equipment
manufacturer wanted to ensure uninterrupted and fast access to its data.
Working with
EMC partner, PC Connection, to improve performance and availability, AeroSpec
selected EMC VNXe unified storage. It has replaced its storage infrastructure with EMC
VNXe, VMware vSphere and multicore servers while transitioning to a 100%
virtualized IT environment.
Erich
Becker, AeroSpec’s Director, Information Systems said: "I migrated our entire environment over and had it
running-servers, VNXe, and VMware vSphere-over a two-week period of evenings
and weekends. Even though I had never worked with VNXe and VMware, the
outstanding integration between the two products-and the assistance provided by
the graphical wizards-made everything simple. In the old days if we wanted a
new test environment, it took weeks to order and deploy a new server and
storage. With VNXe and VMware, I can create a test environment in one-minute.
We’ve saved a ton of time and money on new equipment.
"Our performance on VNXe is twice as fast as
our older systems. The VNXe has provided 2x faster access to our Exchange
environment for example. I also love the flexibility of VNXe. I can easily move
data around, the architecture is designed to be highly available, and with VNXe
there’s always a backup. We simply don’t have any downtime.
"We’ve made a quantum leap in our efficiency
with VNXe. For a small, growing business like ours, that’s huge. With VNXe thin
provisioning, we’ve increased storage utilization by 75%, delaying storage
purchases as a result. When I need to allocate new storage, all I do is click a
button, I don’t need to deal with command lines or learning complex algorithms.
We’ve reduced our time spent managing storage and servers by 80%. We’re
estimating full payback from our VNXe in one-year."
