continuity.

Part of the
Idemitsu Group, one of Japan’s largest energy corporations, IPN’s main
activities are the exploration, development and production of oil and natural
gas in Norway. To support its business, IPN has standardized on an HP
Converged Infrastructure utilizing HP BladeSystem and HP ProLiant servers,
storage and networking switches.

The addition
of HP StoreOnce Backup Systems with data deduplication software developed by HP
Labs, the company’s central research arm, will enable IPN to manage
and protect its ever-increasing volume of data.

HP StoreOnce
Backup Systems eliminate duplicate data, providing up to 20 times more disk
space savings for data protection, and offering a way to control IPN’s unrelenting data growth.

With 67
percent faster deployment and 95 percent less capacity required, HP StoreOnce
enables IPN to backup all its production data to
disk. At the same time, it simplifies operational procedures and centralizes
control of IPN’s information assets to safeguard critical data and ensure
business continuity.

"Idemitsu was in need of a simple,
cost-effective disk backup solution capable of handling protection for more
than 30 terabytes of production data and a 100 percent annual growth rate,
"
said Mats Bergersen, IT systems administrator, Idemitsu Petroleum Norge. "With a backup speed of more than 3 terabytes
per hour and up to 1 petabyte of data capacity, the HP StoreOnce D2D4324 met
all of our storage needs without increasing our data center footprint.
"

As part of
IPN’s complete data storage solution, an HP EVA 8400 virtual storage array
supports IPN’s critical applications and bulk storage needs. The HP
EVA 8400 enables IPN to build a complete virtualized IT
environment and add storage and server capacity to meet
fluctuating demands. Automated data archival by an HP MSL LTO Ultrium tape
library
reduces manual intervention, lowering costs and
enabling IPN’s IT staff to focus on innovation rather than maintenance tasks.

"To accommodate growing data and IT budget
concerns, companies need an affordable data backup solution that doesn’t
compromise on scalability, functionality or performance,
" said Chris
Johnson, vice president, Enterprise storage – Europe, the Middle East and
Africa, HP. "HP StoreOnce is
dramatically reducing Idemitsu’s data recovery and system management time,
while meeting the company’s future capacity requirements.
