IBM LTFS Library Edition V2.1.1

Enables read, write, search, and indexing of metadata

IBM System Storage Linear Tape File System Library Edition V2.1.1 enables read, write, search, and indexing of user metadata, as well as access to the user data.

Metadata is the descriptive information about user data stored on a cartridge and it enables searching and accessing of files via the graphical user interface of the operating system. With graphic search, read, and write, it can be easier to write and read files using LTFS Library Edition as compared to using traditional tape management software.

IBM LTFS Library Edition announced for IBM LTO-5 Tape Libraries is enhanced with support for the IBM System Storage TS1140 Enterprise Tape Drive in the IBM TS3500 Tape Library. Also announced is On-disk metadata storage support, Data Path Failover on selected operating systems, and additional LTFS Tools. LTFS Library Edition enables mounting of the library as a file system and indexing of data, while the file manager manages the automation and provides operating system-level access to all the content in the library. LTFS Library Edition is based on the LTFS format specification, enabling tape library cartridges to be interchangeable with cartridges written with the open-source, single-drive versions of LTFS. IBM LTFS Library Edition supports selected IBM tape library systems.

This LTFS Library Edition software is required to be installed on customer servers supporting RedHat Enterprise Linux R5.5, R5.6, or SLES 11 SP1 with connection and support of selected IBM tape libraries. IBM LTFS LE trial software is available on a limited basis through IBM Marketing Representative.
