Block-Based De-Dupe for Infortrend EonNAS Unified Systems
Space savings of up to 90% in backup applications
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 10, 2011 at 2:49 pmInfortrend Corporation offers data deduplication technology on its EonNAS unified storage systems to help mid-range enterprises and SMBs optimise storage capacity utilisation by eliminating redundant copies of the same data, thereby reducing data storage costs.
The inline, block-based deduplication technology performs duplication calculations as each new data block enters the EonNAS system. When the system sees that an identical block is already present in the volume, the new block will be discarded and only a pointer will be created for reference to the existing block.
The storage savings with data deduplication differ by application and type of data. In general, deduplication can help EonNAS users achieve space savings of up to 90% in backup applications, 70% in virtualisation environments and 40% for common office files.
Cost reductions achieved by data deduplication involve many aspects of datacentre operations. If a business can store data on storage systems more efficiently, storage ROI can be increased. In addition, if a business can make better use of resources and needs fewer hardware devices to store data, required floor space will be reduced and corresponding power consumption and cooling for data storage will also decrease significantly.
Thomas Kao, director of product planning at Infortrend, noted: "Deduplication offers clear advantages: storing more data on storage systems and using systems much longer than is possible without deduplication. These advantages, combined with the fact that the technology is available at no additional costs, further enhance the cost efficiency of our EonNAS systems and solidify their position as one of the premier NAS storage solutions available today."
EonNAS offers a unified storage platform that simultaneously serves file and block-based applications and features easy management, high availability, flexible scalability and competitive price/performance. EonNAS helps mid-range enterprises and SMBs meet diverse and changing data demand while staying within budget.
Data deduplication technology is available on the EonNAS 3000 Series and will be integrated on new EonNAS systems launched in the future.
