Block-Based De-Dupe for Infortrend EonNAS Unified Systems

Infortrend Corporation offers data deduplication technology on its EonNAS unified storage systems to help mid-range enterprises and SMBs optimise storage capacity utilisation by eliminating redundant copies of the same data, thereby reducing data storage costs.
 
The inline, block-based deduplication technology performs duplication calculations as each new data block enters the EonNAS system. When the system sees that an identical block is already present in the volume, the new block will be discarded and only a pointer will be created for reference to the existing block.
 
The storage savings with data deduplication differ by application and type of data. In general, deduplication can help EonNAS users achieve space savings of up to 90% in backup applications, 70% in virtualisation environments and 40% for common office files.
