Synology With HiDrive Backup App for NAS Server

Synology Inc. is launching the HiDrive Backup App for its NAS server.

This allows owners of a Synology DiskStation to backup all the contents of their NAS on HiDrive, Strato’s online storage system.

The HiDrive Backup App can be downloaded free of charge and is also available in the Package Centre of the DiskStation Manager.

The HiDrive Cloud Service offers users ‘short download and upload times as well as high safety standards’ and is therefore the location for online backups. This is also confirmed by Computerbild, Europe’s PC and mobile magazine, which declared HiDrive the winner in a trial involving 10 Internet hard drives.

"Many users only think about data backup when it’s too late and the files have long been lost. With the HiDrive Backup App they can now store their backup automatically in the Cloud – on Strato HiDrive, winner of the trial of the Internet hard drives. If a catastrophe should then unexpectedly occur and, for instance, a thief steals their laptop and NAS Server containing all their data, everything will still be available from Strato – thanks to Cloud backup with the DiskStation," says Peter Chen, Product Manager of Synology Inc.

Anyone who installs the HiDrive Backup App on their DiskStation can automatically backup complete files and registries from their NAS on HiDrive – even encrypted container files. If users amend their files on the NAS, only the amended data blocks need to be backed up on HiDrive and not entire files. This is because the incremental backup takes place on block level saving time and bandwidth, especially when transferring larger container files. And when an internet connection is interrupted, the DiskStation will continue with the backup, once the connection is available again. In addition, users of Photo Station and Surveillance Station may rejoice as their entire photos, blogs, videos, and account settings are available for immediate online backup and restore with the support of HiDrive Backup.
