Aimed at vSphere 5 and ESXi, $1,900 for 2 virtual appliance license with 2TB, 2 HA licenses.

StorMagic announced a new version of SvSAN, a Storage Virtual Appliance (SVA), that includes support for VMware vSphere 5. It also provides support for ESXi in high availability configurations.

With this new version customers seeking StorMagic’s single-pane-of-glass management can continue to manage SvSAN from within VMware’s vCenter. Additionally, SvSAN includes a High Availability feature enabling ESXi users to achieve HA for virtual machines with or without vCenter. SvSAN’s web-based management tool enables administrators to implement HA applications while lowering the cost and complexity of the virtual environment.

"SvSAN was a huge success with ESX/ESXi 4.0 & 4.1 users. They appreciated the high-availability data protection features and vCenter integration that we offered. At the same time, many of our customers, particularly in industries such as retail, energy, government, healthcare and education, required a simpler and lower cost solution for high availability in their distributed and remote sites," said StorMagic CEO, Hans O’Sullivan. "Our aim with this release was to make SvSAN and high-availability for VMware environments affordable for all of our customers at all of their locations."

SvSAN is not limited to the conventional limitations of existing virtual storage appliances, enabling simple two server environments without requiring a third server or console, yet with unrestricted scalability in servers and capacity. Performance and availability are central to the SvSAN architecture, enabling enterprise class applications to run in a true active-active mirroring configuration.

"SvSAN for vSphere 5 has been getting a lot of attention from very large enterprises that have 100’s to 1000’s of locations. These multi-site deployments demand high availability and centralized management, in a simple, 2-server solution," explained Richard Forrest, Director of Sales.
