ATP Introduces New PowerProtector Technology

For sudden power down protection in NAND flash modules and SSDs

ATP Electronics, Inc., a memory manufacturer of flash and DRAM memory modules, announced a new technology for its industrial grade flash product line, ATP PowerProtector.

Its technology guarantees reliable controller and lasting NAND flash operation with a backup power circuit during a power outage. The standalone design of PowerProtector ensures a sufficient amount of backup power during any power abnormalities such as unstable voltages and power outages.

"ATP’s introduction of its new PowerProtector Technology highlights the critical requirement for reliable flash operations in high performance mission critical applications such as transportation, telecommunications, networking and embedded systems," said Jeff Hsieh, ATP Director of Business Development. "PowerProtector’s patent pending technology allows the flash memory module to intelligently manage critical active components which ensures data integrity, increased productivity, and an overall decreased cost of ownership."

PowerProtector is designed to combat the technical limitations and performance issues offered by existing solutions. Unlike SuperCap, the common backup solution on the market, PowerProtector offers a stand alone hardware design that does not require specific controllers or customized firmware. This feature provides greater flexibility during the design of a new product or customized form factor.

ATP PowerProtector’s leaner requirements for board footprint also allows for support in smaller form factors such as CF cards, SlimSATA, SATA embedded modules, eUSB, mSATA, PATA, CFast, in addition to SSDs. The solid state capacitor found in PowerProtector is a component that allows it to surpass the natural limitations of SuperCap designs which are sensitive to temperature change and have a tendency of losing capacitance and functionality at extreme temperatures, especially in industrial environments. The solid state capacitors’ low series resistance and its minimal sensitivity to temperature and humidity make it a solution for extreme circumstances.

ATP Electronics supports in-house testing (endurance, signal integrity and protocol compatibility), and customized firmware tuning or firmware setting adjustments. All ATP Industrial Grade flash products are produced under RoHS compliant manufacturing processes.
