Tandberg Data Enhances RDX QuikStation

Tandberg Data has enhanced the feature set and performance of the RDX QuikStation.

The removable disk library will now emulate 10 configurable storage types, offering users versatility and expanded compatibility. The RDX-based appliance, providing transfer rates of up to 720 GB/hr, can look like a tape library or autoloader, virtual RDX drives, stand-alone tape drives, generic disk drives, or a combination of tape and disk. The new feature set is available to existing RDX QuikStation customers and is included in all current RDX QuikStation solutions.

The RDX QuikStation delivers data protection and off-site disaster recovery in a multi-cartridge 2U configuration. With its range of available configurations, compatibility with popular backup applications and iSCSI interface, the RDX QuikStation integrates into a broad range of environments.

In addition to more configuration modes, the new firmware upgrade delivers a friendlier GUI experience, allowing users to update software automatically via the internet, clone cartridges for off-site copies outside the backup window, and choose from multiple languages for both the web interface and individual front panel LCDs. In addition, the upgrade boosts network performance to 200 MB/sec with dual GBE ports for failover and performance. Cartridge spanning allows users to store up to 8TB with a single backup set.

RDX QuikStation
The RDX QuikStation consists of eight integrated RDX docks that provide up to 8TB of online capacity when fully populated with Tandberg Data 1TB RDX disk cartridges, as well as unlimited offline capacity. With built-in web-based management, the QuikStation makes remote system configuration, management, operation, status checks and security easy and convenient.

The RDX QuikStation allows users to configure the unit as:

• 8 individual RDX QuikStor targets (addressable via 1 to 8 hosts)
• 8 individual iSCSI disk targets (addressable via 1 to 8 hosts)
• Emulated StorageLibrary T40+ (8 slots and 1-4 LTO-3 tape drives)
• Emulated StorageLibrary T24 (8 slots and 1-2 LTO-3 tape drives)
• Emulated StorageLoader (8 slots and 1 LTO-3 tape drive)
• 8 individual LTO-3 Tape Drive targets (addressable via 1 to 8 hosts)
• Emulated LTO autoloader or RDX autoloader
• 2 hybrid configurations that offer a combination of tape automation and RDX QuikStor

Pricing and Availability
The RDX QuikStation removable disk library is available through Tandberg Data’s channel of distributor and reseller partners. The manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) of the RDX QuikStation starts at $3,999 (US). The RDX QuikStation comes with a one-year on-site service (where available). Service upgrades are also available. RDX media is sold separately.

Tandberg Data has shipped more than 230,000 RDX QuikStor drives and more than 700,000 RDX cartridges to OEMs, resellers and distributors around the globe. Tandberg Data acquired the RDX technology assets from Prostor Systems in May.
