Symform Free Cloud Storage Up to 200GB (!)

Symform, Inc. announced a new program that will reward users with up to 200GB of free cloud storage.

This offer represents savings for customers and 1,000 percent more free storage than competitors. Other popular cloud storage providers charge up to $1,247 annually for 200GB.

"Businesses have been slow to adopt cloud storage because it is still quite expensive," said Laura DuBois, program vice president at IT research firm IDC. "Symform’s redundant approach provides firms with a very cost-effective solution, which is why they can offer 200GB for free while others charge hundreds or more. It’s a great way for businesses to more economically adopt cloud storage."

Local storage is inexpensive, and the price continues to fall. Today, two terabytes of storage is less than $100, but storing that same amount in the cloud costs $12,000 or more annually-and those costs grow as data grows. This price gap has held back adoption of cloud storage even though it has advantages over local storage.

Symform users receive 100GB of free cloud storage just for signing up and configuring their account. Under the new program, users can increase their free storage up to 200GB by referring other users (10GB free per successful referral) and getting configured within the first 24 hours (20GB free).

For those with 200GB or less, the service is free.

Symform’s decentralized model allows the company to offer secure and reliable storage for hundreds and even thousands less than competitors in the industry. Other cloud storage providers use a centralized data center approach, which is very costly due to additional overhead costs including disk space, increased bandwidth, and the power needed to house and cool servers. In fact, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, cloud storage data centers account for fully two percent of all electricity used in the U.S. In addition, centralized data centers are more susceptible to vulnerability at a single point of failure.

The Symform Storage Cloud is the industry’s first decentralized cloud storage solution. Users contribute local storage equal to the amount of data that they want to redundantly store in the cloud. Symform then uses RAID-96 to geographically distribute, encrypt, and shred its data.
