IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager
for Microsoft Applications,
V6.2.3
It provides enhancements in its ability to monitor a Microsoft
environment, including new support for Microsoft HIS, Microsoft ISAS,
Exchange 2010, .Net Framework 4.0, and native 64-bit agents.
Consumability enhancements include composite workspaces for cross-agent
integration, enhanced best practices, and a new application launchpad.
V6.2.3 of IBM Tivoli Composite Application for Microsoft Applications
addresses time to value by incorporating built-in resource discovery for
quick deployment of monitoring to key Microsoft applications and
systems. The addition of lightweight network monitoring increases the
management breadth of the solution, while Microsoft Technet integration
enhances the best practices built into the Microsoft management
workspaces and situations. With IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager
for Microsoft Applications, V6.2.3, Tivoli Enterprise Portal can
deliver reduced time to value and lower cost of ownership. System and
application information, collected by IBM Tivoli Composite Application
Manager for Microsoft Applications, can be used by a number of other IBM

IBM Security Virtual Server Protection for VMware,
V1.1
IBM Security Virtual Server Protection for VMware, V1.1 offers
protection for every layer of the virtual infrastructure, including
host, network, hypervisor, virtual machine and traffic between virtual
machines. It helps reduce costs, address compliance, and secure virtual
data centers. Security Virtual Server Protection for VMware, V1.1
includes support for VMware ESX and ESXi V4.1, in addition to offering
product quality improvements. This is the first release of Security
Virtual Server Protection for VMware to be available through Passport
Advantage.

IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments, V6.2
IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments, V6.2, provides
faster, more frequent protection for virtual machines. It integrates
with and extends the role of, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager to help with:

Backup and recovery
Disaster recovery
Data reduction
Bare-machine recovery
Space management

In the virtualized environment, it can provide:

Improved frequency of backups to help reduce the amount of data at risk
Fast recovery of data to help reduce downtime following a failure

Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments, V6.2 leverages the
VMware vStorage APIs for Data Protection technology that helps simplify
and streamline operations by utilizing agents placed on one or more
vStorage backup servers. Unlike agents placed on the virtual machines
themselves, the vStorage APIs can significantly reduce the system
overhead and any disruption that backups may cause to virtual machine
operations. In the vStorage model, the agent has the ability to read and
write directly from and to the VMware server’s storage, handling backup
schedules and the transfer of data from the virtual machines, and then
transferring data to a server running Tivoli Storage Manager for
reporting and management. In this backup process, no intermediate
storage is required because data passes through the vStorage backup
server for processing but does not remain on the system. In addition,
data can be transferred across the Storage Area Network (SAN) when the
infrastructure allows it. A vStorage backup server can reside in a
virtual machine in the same VMware server, with no additional hardware
required.

By conducting operations on the vStorage backup server and VMware host
servers rather than on the virtual machine, Tivoli Storage Manager for
Virtual Environments, V6.2 offers a number of advantages:

Centralized and simplified management – Supports multiple virtual machines with one Tivoli Storage Manager agent
Potential workload reduction on the virtual machine – Allows other operations to continue during backup
Fast backups and potentially less redundant data – Integrates with

Retrieving data from image-level backups, Tivoli Storage Manager for
Virtual Environments, V6.2 gives users the flexibility to perform a
file-level, volume-level, or virtual machine image-level recovery using a
single backup of a virtual machine image. Periodic capture of data
changes at the block level helps reduce the amount of data at risk
between full backups, which can enable applications and users to get
back up and running within minutes following any data loss. In a file
restore operation, the administrator launches the Tivoli Storage Manager
for Virtual Environments, V6.2 restore on the vStorage backup server
(or on any other Microsoft Windows machine), accesses a point-in-time
view of the data in the storage pool using Tivoli Storage Manager, and
performs a drag-and-drop of the desired files. For a full volume
restore, Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments, V6.2 mounts
the point-in-time snapshot for that volume directly to the recovery
volume and makes it available immediately to users and applications,
while the actual data recovery happens in the background. All
application and operating system requests to write to and read from the
volume are handled transparently, providing near-normal performance
during the recovery process. Image-level restores can provide recovery
of not only the data, but also the complete computing environment; from
operating systems applications and patches to upgrades and custom
configurations.

data backups, data recovery, redirected restore, and disaster recovery
of multiple SAP database servers.

Tivoli Storage Manager for Enterprise Resource Planning performs backup of large SAP databases (for example, databases
larger than one terabyte). This is accomplished by breaking up
large SAP database objects into multiple smaller objects. This enables
more flexibility on server-side maintenance tasks, such as backup
storage pool operations, as they can now be interrupted without being
required to start all over again.

Tivoli Storage Manager For Storage Area Networks, V6.2
Tivoli Storage Manager for Storage Area Networks works with servers and
client computers to make data transfers over a SAN. It allows SAN-connected Tivoli Storage Manager servers and Tivoli
Storage Manager client computers to make maximum use of their direct
network connection to storage.

Tivoli Storage Manager For Space Management, V6.2
It provides HSM, which is a component of information
lifecycle management. It helps
free administrators and users from manual file system pruning tasks,
and helps control the need for additional disk storage by automatically
and transparently migrating files via policy to near line or offline
storage. It is available for AIX JFS2 and General Parallel File System
(GPFS), Linux GPFS, Solaris VxFS, and HP-UX JFS file systems. When used
in conjunction with the IBM GPFS, files managed by Tivoli Storage
Manager for Space Management can be moved from GPFS disk storage pools
to tape while the filename will remain the same, including its directory
and file system name.

Tivoli Storage Manager For Mail, V6.1
It helps protect Lotus Domino and Microsoft

supports online (hot) backup and exploits the backup-certified
interfaces provided by Lotus Domino and Microsoft Exchange. This helps

Tivoli Storage Manager for Databases helps protect Oracle and Microsoft
SQL data. It supports incremental and full backup to help provide online
(hot) backup, exploits the backup-certified utilities and interfaces
provided by Oracle and Microsoft SQL, and uses the Tivoli Storage
Manager storage hierarchy for data placement and management. This helps
maximize the protection of the data and the performance of the backups
and restores, and helps minimize storage hardware costs.

Tivoli Storage Manager For Virtual Environments, V6.2
Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments delivers backup
efficiencies and advanced recovery capabilities for VMware hypervisors.
Using Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments, the burden of
running backups on a virtual machine can be addressed by offloading
backup workloads from a VMware ESX-based or ESXi-based server to a
centralized vStorage backup server. The vStorage backup server takes
full and incremental snapshots of virtual machines, processes backups,
and sends the results to a Tivoli Storage Manager V5.5, or later server.

It uses a block-level, incremental approach
to data protection that has a very low impact on managed servers and
applications, and helps eliminate backup windows. In addition, it offers

application object from the stored data blocks of any stored snapshot. It provides this low impact backup and
recovery capability for Microsoft Windows platform and for Linux file
servers and applications.
