LaCie Brings Security to USB CooKey

LaCie announced its CooKey now includes a custom-built software suite for data security: LaCie’s Private-Public software for data encryption and password protection, PC/Mac Lock for secure computer access and one-to-one storage from Wuala.

Keep sensitive data secure
The compact, key-shaped design of the CooKey makes it convenient for sharing information with colleagues and friends. Now, with LaCie’s Private-Public software, users don’t have to worry about their files getting into the wrong hands even in the case of loss or theft. Choose the amount of capacity to encrypt, then type a custom password.

Lock and unlock a computer
LaCie PC/Mac Lock software allows a user to log on and off a computer simply by inserting the CooKey. With PC/Mac Lock, users can keep their computers as secure as their homes – and only they have the key. Once the CooKey is plugged in to the computer’s USB port, PC/Mac Lock will automatically log the user in to the operating system – then when it’s removed, they’re logged out, providing protection and security. Just one LaCie USB key can lock and unlock an unlimited number of Macs or PCs.

Get double storage with Wuala
LaCie has also integrated secure online storage from Wuala into the CooKey, making storing and sharing files, photos or videos easier. You get a one-to-one storage ratio with Wuala (the 8GB CooKey comes with 8GB of Wuala storage, for example), doubling storage capacity or offering storage protection.

LaCie recognizes data security is crucial for any storage device. This is especially true in the case of shared USB keys or when mobile hard drives are lost or stolen.
