inVentiv Health Selects WhipTail SSD Array

To optimize Citrix environment

 WhipTail Tech announced that
inVentiv health, provider of value-added services to the
pharmaceutical, life sciences and healthcare industries with more than $800
million in revenue and 5,200 employees, has selected the WhipTail XLR8r
solid-state based storage array to help optimize its Citrix environment.

The organization was suffering
from poor performance in one of its mission critical applications – its
statistical analysis system (SAS). Running in inVentiv health’s virtualized
Citrix XenApp 6 housed on a VMware ESX environment, the SAS was performing at
an unacceptable level.

As a
result, inVentiv has a Citrix environment that runs four times faster than with
the company’s traditional hard disk drive fiber channel storage array, and what
seemed to be an endless number of user complaints being fielded by the help
desk has stopped completely.

"We had the application running on our traditional
hard-disk drive fiber channel storage array, but we had endless user
complaints, and we were fielding consistent calls and having to reboot the
servers,
" said Tony Marando, manager of technical services at inVentiv
health. "We were also experiencing long delays to conduct statistical
analysis of data sets; reports were taking hours. We needed a way to really
increase the underlying performance without breaking the bank.
"

WhipTail’s XLR8r provides applications a performance pool of
250,000 IO/s, decreasing latency to 0.1ms and delivering a throughput
of 1.7gb/s. With the XLR8r, inVentiv health was able to stop over-provisioning
in spindles (while wasting capacity) and optimize the underlying storage.

"WhipTail’s XLR8r was the perfect answer to our problem
– a high-performing storage array that captures the speed of solid-state, but
at a cost-point that the regular enterprises can adopt,
" said Marando.
"It’s about what we are paying per IO, not per GIG anymore."

"We see it every day – companies like inVentiv health
struggling with several IT challenges that they must overcome – challenges like
poor critical application performance, slow reporting turnaround times,
difficult virtual environment implementations and growing hard disk drive
sprawl that always seem to come back to the storage component of the
infrastructure,
" said Brian Feller, CMO and VP Strategic Alliances at
WhipTail. "The thing is our XLR8r makes it so easy to overcome all of
these challenges while saving money companies have traditionally continued to
pump into legacy drives in the past
."

"With the XLR8r, the InVentiv health environment now
runs four times faster and the help desk calls have stopped completely,
"
said Marando. "And those reports that took hours now only take minutes
when running on the XLR8r.
