Sedona Switches to AppAssure

To decrease restore time "from 20 hours to 20 minutes"

announced that The Sedona Group, an Illinois-based
provider of workforce management solutions, switched from Symantec Backup Exec
to AppAssure’s Replay 4 backup and recovery software.

With
Replay’s bare metal restore capabilities, along with CDP, Sedona is reported to have decreased server restore time from 20
hours to 20 minutes while almost doubling company’s ROI.

"Our IT environment is constantly changing, and only
Replay 4 has been able to keep up with it,
" says Dave Buzzell, The Sedona
Group’s Chief Information Officer. "Replay’s speed and ease of use are
great features. The continuous backup and bare metal restore ability makes
everything go really smoothly. Also, Replay’s great compression and
deduplication capabilities have meant that we’ve been able to have a lot more
data easily available. Right now we’ve estimated we can keep three years of
continuous backups because of dedup/compression. That’s amazing!
"

As Buzzell says, having seen Sedona’s IT environment in
action at different times in the company’s history, he can attest to the time and money savings that his team is experiencing.

"Last summer we had an incident where an administrator
turned off a server and it just didn’t turn back on,
" says Buzzell.
"We went to Backup Exec and were told it’d take anywhere from 20 hours to
two full weeks, but we only had 50GB on it, and no one could tell us why. We
ended up finding another way around our backup/restore solution, but it was a
20 hour process to get fully back up and running. Recently we decided to redo
this scenario in a test environment with Replay. This exact same issue took us
less than 20 minutes to get back up.
"

"Replay has saved Sedona not only countless hours in staff
time, but has given the company a solid 199% ROI
," says Buzzell. "The
biggest surprise cost-wise was seeing what tape was costing us. I’m known for
being frugal. When I find new products, I ask what the price is. The cost
factor is not insignificant, and Replay is definitely in our ballpark. It’s
saved us almost $100,000 in operational and infrastructure costs, but also in
staff hours. Now I’m not stressing the staff and can put them on other
important projects.
"

According to Buzzell, The Sedona Group now has more of time,
money, and happy stuff all because of Replay 4. "Just a couple nights
ago,"
says Buzzell, "there was a hiccup on the SQL server and it
wasn’t coming back on after a reboot. My admin said ÔI don’t panic because I
know what Replay can do.’ It was all taken care of in less than 15 minutes.
That was nice.
