Emulex Through EMC Select For Dual-Port OneConnect Universal CNAs
Supporting VNX, VNXe, Symmetrix and Connectrix
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on July 20, 2011 at 2:59 pmEmulex Corporation announced that its dual-port OneConnect Universal Converged Network Adapters (UCNAs) with BladeEngine 3 (BE3) technology for 10Gb iSCSI and FCoE connectivity are now available through the EMC Select Program, and are supported by EMC VNX, EMC VNXe, EMC Symmetrix and EMC Connectrix.
Emulex OneConnect UCNAs provide EMC customers with the option of iSCSI or FCoE connectivity based on their data center needs. Emulex 10Gb iSCSI and FCoE adapters support full protocol offload providing performance to solutions based on software initiators and standard Network Interface Cards (NICs). All Emulex OneConnect adapters enable full 10GbE network performance using an 8-lane PCI Express Gen 2 architecture and support stateless TCP/IP and TCP Chimney offloads.
"With 20 percent less power, and Emulex vEngine support enabling more virtual machines per server, Emulex UCNAs are ideal for EMC customers," said Shaun Walsh, vice president of marketing, Emulex. "In addition, by selecting Emulex UCNAs, customers can future-proof their data centers with either 10Gb iSCSI or FCoE-based network convergence, enabling consolidation of network and storage infrastructures."
The Emulex OneConnect OCe11000 family of UCNAs with BE3 technology allows network and storage resources to be divided into multiple hardware-isolated and protected virtual network and virtual storage interfaces.
Emulex OneConnect UCNAs enable:
- Next Generation Virtual Networking: The OCe11000 family supports emerging Virtual Ethernet Port Aggregator (VEPA), Virtual Ethernet Bridge (VEB) and Single Root I/O Virtualization (SR-IOV) standards. With these capabilities, the adapter functions as a Layer 2 hardware switch to offload network-based management of VM traffic and optimize performance for applications running on virtualized servers.
- Faster I/O Offload: Emulex BE3 controllers leverage Emulex vEngine technology for full protocol offload support which removes the overhead of network and storage traffic from the CPU.
- Greener I/O with 20% Less Power: Emulex BE3-based OneConnect UCNAs have increased integration and reductions in external components, providing a 20% improvement in power efficiency over previous versions.
- Manageable I/O with Emulex OneCommand: By sharing a single driver model, Emulex Ethernet-based and Fibre Channel I/O solutions can be controlled, configured and managed from a single console. Consolidated management capabilities enable enterprise scalability with time-saving features that provide more than twice the management capabilities in half the time compared to other I/O solutions.
"Having Emulex’s latest Universal CNAs available through EMC Select means customers can work toward achieving network consolidation in the data center, while protecting existing technology investments," said Deidre Wassell, Director, EMC Solutions Marketing. "Streamlined management and performance are two of the key value propositions behind EMC’s storage portfolio-which is a natural complement to Emulex’s next generation OneConnect adapters."
