Brand Leaders in SSDs: HP, EMC, Intel, Pliant, SanDisk, and Smart Modular

According to June 2011 survey from IT Brand Pulse

IT Brand Pulse, a source of data and analysis about IT infrastructure, announced the results of the June 2011 Brand Leader Awards survey.

In this survey, respondents were asked which vendors they perceive as the leader in four IT categories: Entry-Level Servers, SSDs, Unified Security Appliances, and Content Management. For each category, respondents chose the brand leader in Market, Price, Performance, Reliability, Service and Support, and Innovation.

Highlights of the survey:

  • HP captured the Market Leader award, as well as took the Price and Innovation categories in Entry-Level Servers, but tied with IBM in Service and Support. IBM singularly came out on top in Performance, while Cisco was perceived to be the leader in Reliability.
  • In SSDs, IT professionals chose HP as both the Market, and Service and Support Leader. A four-way tie for second place resulted among EMC, Intel, SanDisk, and SMART Modular Technologies. The other category awards (Price, Performance, Reliability, Innovation) were split among EMC, Pliant Technology, and Intel.
  • Dominating IT perceptions of Unified Security Appliance Market brand leadership, Juniper secured the title over runner-up, Cisco/IronPort, which led in Price, and Service and Support. IBM rounded out the Performance and Innovation awards with a resounding margin. Watchguard was the front-runner in Reliability.
  • SAS edged out Microsoft as the Market Leader in Content Management, but Microsoft won three out of the five categories: Performance, Reliability, and Innovation. IBM took the Price, and Service and Support awards.

According to Frank Berry, IT Brand Pulse CEO and Senior Analyst, "In the June, 2011 Brand Leader survey, the halo of the HP brand shines over the mature market for entry-level servers, as well as for the hundreds of competitors that form the new market for SSDs".

Comments

Being an IT company with a big brand name often gives the perception to the storage community that you are the best one for products even if you do not manufacture them at all.

It's the case here with HP or EMC being considered as the leaders in branded SSDs that they OEM from several sources including Active Media, Fusion-io, Samsung, SanDisk or Stec.

Other names cited by IT Brand Pulse (Intel, Pliant, SanDisk, Smart Technology) are pure manufacturers of SSDs.
