From Systar, Storage Resource Report for VMware

Systar, a provider of performance management software, announced an expansion of its capacity and performance management solutions for IT infrastructure with the launch of the Storage Resource Report for VMware, and the release of a new storage-specific capacity management solution by the end of 2011.

Storage is now one of the major challenges facing IT departments. The volume of data to be stored has doubled in just three years, which makes it harder to manage. Due to constant requests for additional storage resources, budget constraints, lack of global visibility into all SAN or NAS arrays, and above all the low rate of utilization of disk space reserved to applications, the storage capacity management becomes a priority for IT managers.

In order to help them meet these challenges, Systar has extended the capabilities of its OmniVision solutions to storage capacity management. Three main steps punctuate this evolution: the launch of the Storage Resource Report for VMware in June 2011, its adaptation to the Windows and Unix environments in the upcoming months, and the launch of a new solution dedicated to SAN and NAS arrays at the end of 2011.

The Storage Resource Report for VMware enables systems engineering teams to manage the capacity of logical volumes allocated to the VMware environment. Through this solution, architects and capacity managers can identify the allocated, used and remaining capacity for each VMware cluster or datastore. They identify at a glance the datastore that can host new VMs or the clusters in risk of saturation, which reduces incidents related to disk space. In addition, this solution provides capacity consumption trends to anticipate reliably the future resource requirement in the upcoming 3 to 6 months and to better plan budgets.
