PetroChina Extracts Value With EMC Isilon

EMC Corporation announced that PetroChina, the publicly-traded arm of China National Petroleum Corporation has deployed EMC Isilon scale-out NAS to power the Northwest branch of its Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration and Development (PetroChina NWGI).

Using Isilon’s X-Series, powered by the OneFS operating system, PetroChina NWGI has consolidated a range of oil and gas exploration, acquisition and distribution applications on a single, shared storage resource, simplifying big data management for its mission-critical operations. With Isilon, PetroChina NWGI can scale performance and capacity linearly or independently as business needs change, ensuring flexibility in meeting the massive scale and throughput demands of its big data IT infrastructure.

PetroChina NWGI executes a range of geological and geophysical research and development throughout China, focused on identifying, extracting, producing and distributing oil and gas resources around the world. Prior to Isilon, PetroChina NWGI’s traditional storage systems couldn’t keep pace with the organization’s exponential data growth and intense performance demands, slowing workflow productivity and escalating operating costs.
