Code 42 Rebrands Backup Software CrashPlan PRO to PROe

Soon-to-be-released version for SMBs

Code 42 Software Inc., developer of CrashPlan and CrashPlan PRO backup software for home and business, announces the rebranding of its CrashPlan PRO to CrashPlan PROe.

The re-branding initiative is focused on more clearly identifying CrashPlan PROe as an enterprise-grade solution, while also making way for Code 42’s soon-to-be-released product, aimed directly at the SMB market.

Since its introduction in 2008, CrashPlan PRO his for continuous enterprise laptop backup. Many of the largest enterprises around the world trust CrashPlan PROe to continuously protect data and deliver complete control over every aspect of protection. CrashPlan PROe has features including: cross-platform support for Windows, Mac, Linux and Solaris (both client and server), multiple destination and multiple location support, unrivaled support for laptop backup, de-duplication, enterprise name service integration, custom installers and comprehensive reporting.

"Despite all of the capabilities of CrashPlan PRO, the name caused an unexpected challenge when communicating with enterprise customers as they mistakenly assumed that the product was targeted to smaller businesses, like other ‘pro’‚ backup products," said Mike Evangelist, chief marketing officer, Code 42 Software. "Many products with the ‘pro’‚ designation simply tack a few extra features onto what is essentially a consumer product, not the enterprise solution that was promised. For this reason, we are rebranding CrashPlan PRO to CrashPlan PROe – to more clearly identify that is it an enterprise-grade solution, which can’t be compared to other ‘pro’‚ offers."

The product shift leaves an opening for Code 42’s new product, for the SMB market. The new backup product, which will be available later this month, will assume the name CrashPlan PRO and is intended to serve the backup needs of businesses with up to 200 computers.
