Spanning Gets TRUSTe Privacy Seal

For its Backup for Google Apps

Spanning Cloud Apps, Inc., the maker of Spanning Backup for Google Apps, has been certified to display the TRUSTe Privacy Seal and TRUSTe EU Safe Harbor Seal, demonstrating its commitment to consumer trust and privacy online.

TRUSTe, a privacy certification and seal program, awards its privacy seal only to companies that complete the TRUSTe certification process and agree to comply with ongoing oversight and TRUSTe’s consumer dispute resolution process. Additionally, the TRUSTe EU Safe Harbor Seal Program verifies compliance with the Safe Harbor Framework, and signals to consumers around the globe that companies take their users’ privacy seriously.

"Spanning Backup protects our customers’ most important data in the cloud, so privacy is of the utmost importance to us," said Charlie Wood, CEO and founder of Spanning. "This certification demonstrates that we are fully committed to maintaining the highest levels of trust online through participation in the TRUSTe Privacy Seal and EU Safe Harbor programs."

A TRUSTe certification means TRUSTe has reviewed the data collection, use, and management practices of the app and has verified these practices meet TRUSTe’s program standards. TRUSTe’s program standards are based upon a combination of privacy frameworks such as the US-EU Safe Harbor, regulatory guidelines such as the Fair Information Practice Principles, industry standards and reports such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology privacy and security report, and client and expert review.

"By becoming a TRUSTe and EU Safe Harbor sealholder, Spanning gives its clients a clear signal that it is trustworthy and respects the privacy wishes of the people who visit its Web site and use its backup application," said Chris Babel, CEO of TRUSTe. "Spanning joins many other leading brands that are committed to building consumer trust online through participation in the TRUSTe and EU Safe Harbor Privacy Seal programs."
