Permabit Awarded Four New Patents

For de-duple and managing data storage repositories

Permabit Technology Corporation has been awarded four new patents by the US Patent and Trademark Office.

The patents cover deduplication and records retention, including data deduplication for secure data sharing in the cloud.

  • US Patent No. 7,734,595 covers the use of a deduplicating storage repository to allow out-of-band communication between multiple users of data.
  • US Patent Nos. 7,747,583 and 7,930,315 cover retention of historical records in a data storage repository.
  • US Patent No. 7,912,855 covers a data storage repository where deduplication is used to reduce bandwidth requirements by allowing data already in the repository to be stored again by digital fingerprint.

With these additional patents, Permabit now has a total of 23 patents increasing its intellectual property portfolio in data deduplication, cloud storage, date protection and archive, with many more filings pending. Permabit’s storage patent portfolio includes the use of data fingerprints, hash-based deduplication for scalable file and object data storage, encrypted deduplication, snapshotting, and other features of the company’s Scalable Data Reduction (SDR) and Albireo OEM data optimization technologies.

"Permabit is leading the way in Data Optimization and Deduplication technology. The four patents being announced today bring our total patent portfolio to 23 and form the basis of our award-winning Albireo and SDR deduplication technologies," said Jered Floyd, Chief Technology Officer at Permabit. "We have invested heavily in research and development over the years at Permabit and this has enabled us to provide a deduplication solution without equal in terms of performance, scalability and cost savings."
