Start-Up Savage I/O Debuts NAS DataBrick

24TB to 144TB, 4U, SATA-2, OS on SSD

The NAS DataBrick C series from Savage I/O LLC is made for storage capacity at an economical price. They are faultlessly efficient in operation and reliable with redundant CPU’s, hard drives, RAID controllers, power supplies and network ports.

The cost factor and capacity of the C Series makes it a choice when companies need massive amounts of affordable storage. Patent-pending design ensures that you get dense storage and performance at a lower total cost of ownership. And unlike other companies, we do not have to mask hardware inadequacies with software applications.

The C series DataBricks features dual 2.8 GHz Quad Core processors, and supports CIFS, NFS and FTP file access protocols. It is also open platform, ready for whatever application or OS (the default OS we use is Windows Storage Server 2008 r2.) Redundant hot-swap SATA drives and power supplies offer reliability, while the scalability and ‘plug and play’ aspects ensure that the solution is easy to implement.

Benefits

  • High capacity storage (up to 3.1 petabytes in a single rack)
  • Reduce facility requirements by up to 75%
  • Customizable and scalable – will work with nearly any configuration, application, and OS.
  • Cost effective solution for reducing storage overhead
  • iSCSI or Fiber Channel connectivity
  • Scalable with 180TB JBOD expansion unit
  • Quad redundant SSD Operating System Drives connected via there own independent Intel RAID controller

Comments

Founded in 2010 and based in Western New York, Savage I/O is headed by people coming from user's companies, not from the storage industry.

CEO Joshua Roberto was formerly NOC operations manager at Harris IT Services after being senior network engineer/supervisor at L-3 Communications and in communications/computers at U.S.A.F.

COO Phillip Roberto was IT director at Acadia Christian School and then IT manager at Mercury Print Productions.

The company started completion of Series A funding of $1 million last February with anticipated completion by spring of 2011 to begin mass production.

Savage I/O offers patent-designed NAS, SAN and JBOD expansions. One of its differentiator is the use of 80GB SSD to store the operating system in front of RAID supporting SATA, SAS and SSD drives for storage.

It had proven the potential of the design through the integration of a 50TB prototype into the network of a medium-sized printing company.
