The company also demonstrated the latest members of its Wrangler line and, together with industry partners, showing how its portfolio encompasses all phases the 2D/3D digital workflow for production and post-production, now including camera setup, record, video assist, backup/archive, review, graded dailies, edit and finish, and final archive.
New Wrangler FlexVTR Disk
and LTO-5 Tape Archive Recorder:
First demonstrated at the Hollywood Post Alliance Tech Retreat and awarded a Best Innovative Technology Demo award, the new line of archiving systems allows users to record, review, add metadata and catalog media assets stored in the new LTO-5/LTFS standard.
The Wrangler FlexVTR archive recorder is a file-based, digital recording and archiving system. Available immediately for $16,995, the Wrangler FlexVTR can be used:
- As a tape deck replacement on-set, including direct Sony SRW replacement.
- To backup and archive in one step on-set.
- To preserve deteriorating tape libraries and other media assets to the LTO-5 standard. Users can record from virtually any legacy tape deck or SDI source to over 35 formats.
- To transfer camera digital media content faster than real-time to Wrangler FlexVTRs disk array, removable data magazines, LTO-5 tape or any combination.
The Wrangler FlexVTR is packaged in a 4U rack-mount chassis for rack, vehicle or portable case mounting. The VTR control software is designed with controls using a built-in 8" touch screen, using VTR functions as well as optional Sony SRW protocol controls.

Also demoed at NAB was the new Wrangler LTO-5 Off-Load Station and the Wrangler Pro portable field ingest, editing and playback system now featuring LTO-5 support.
Wrangler Mini3D DDR/Viewer
Also introduced at NAB was the Wrangler Mini3D DDR/Viewer. It records from virtually all single and dual HD-SDI cameras including ARRI, RED, Sony, Panasonic, Vision Research, Weisscam and more in 2D & 3D, compressed, uncompressed and RAW. Available now for $16,995, this recorder/viewer with 10" high-res screen built-in is a cost effective 3D recorder with this level of recording capability. It can also be used for multi-purposes in smaller productions including video assist, auto off-load and verify using its USB-3 and eSATA ports.
