Adrian McDonald President EMEA-North, EMC

Promoted from MD of UK and Ireland

EMC Corp. has announced a new senior executive management alignment in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) to help accelerate growth in the region and further increase the company’s focus on helping customers accelerate their journey to cloud computing.

The EMEA region is now being led by two experienced individuals promoted from within EMC’s executive team. Adrian McDonald has been promoted to the position of President, EMEA-North, and Christian Hiller has been promoted to the position of President, EMEA-South. Both individuals will report to Bill Scannell, EMC’s Executive Vice President of the Americas and EMEA geographies. Scannell, a 25-year EMC veteran, has a long track record of achieving strong business results leading a variety of EMC businesses across the Americas, EMEA and APJ.

The EMEA region saw substantial development in 2010 and the new senior management leadership team led by McDonald and Hiller will be responsible for maintaining this momentum and advancing the region’s key role in the company’s future worldwide success. Additionally, EMC foresees ‘Big Data’ – which is the primary contributor to the staggering pace of data growth – to drive its results in 2011. ‘Big Data’ represents enormous amounts of corporate and external data that are requiring organizations to employ new IT architectures to capture, store and rapidly analyze it to unlock the value within.

The new EMEA North and EMEA South executive management team will enable EMC to draw upon the opportunity in the EMEA marketplace whilst staying close to customers across the diverse markets in the regions. EMEA North comprises the United Kingdom, Ireland, Northern Europe, and Eastern Europe; and EMEA South comprises France, Germany, Italy, Iberia, the eastern Mediterranean countries, and the Middle East and Africa.

Bill Scannell, EMC Executive Vice President for the EMEA and Americas Geographies, said: "We expect much of our future growth to come from international markets and the EMEA region will play a significant role in this expansion. Our strong financial performance in 2010 coupled with our industry-leading cloud offerings and strong product roadmap for customers positions EMC well for a great future. With Adrian and Christian leading the effort, I am confident that we have the right leadership team in place to help customers of all sizes transform their IT operations and drive business agility through cloud computing and Big Data."

Adrian McDonald was formally the Managing Director of UK and Ireland and Christian Hiller was the Managing Director of France. They will be replacing Rainer Erlat, who has become Chairman of EMC International, after eight years leading the EMEA geography within EMC. Erlat is now advising on a number of key operational initiatives helping to build on EMC’s strengths.
