Aberdeen: AberSAN V30 ZFS IP SAN Storage System
For video surveillance, powered by Nexenta software
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 6, 2011 at 3:16 pmAberdeen LLC announced the availability of the AberSAN V30 SAN storage appliance, which brings the simplicity of a NAS solution to a SAN environment, optimized for the distinct needs of the security and surveillance industry.
It is based on the Intel Xeon processor 5600 series and features up to 48TB of native storage capacity. The AberSAN V30 scales to thousands of petabytes of storage within a single volume as necessary, by utilizing the ZFS file system with RAID-Z technology.
DCIG and Foskett Services named the AberSAN Z-Series as Best-in-Class in its Expanded Edition of the DCIG 2011 Small Enterprise Storage Array Buyer’s Guide. Aberdeen is capitalizing upon this technology by introducing surveillance video storage specific AberSAN V30.
"Aberdeen’s combination of scalability, performance, flexibility with AberSAN is ideal for smaller enterprises that need to start with less capacity but have the ability to expand as needed," said Jerome Wendt, co-author and founder, DCIG, LLC. "Until recently, Aberdeen focused primarily on private labeling its storage arrays and systems for other companies. Today, it is selling an increasingly number of targeted video solutions under its own brand."
Aberdeen announced the new AberSAN V30 at the ISC West International Security Conference and Exhibition, taking place at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, April 5-8.
Aberdeen has more than 20 years of experience providing integrators with enterprise-level custom server and storage solutions. The new AberSAN V30 meets the technical needs of any major surveillance expansion program and reduces the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) by future-proofing capacity limitations with unlimited storage expansion capabilities. It provides enterprise class unified storage resources for centralized environments needing high-capacity protected storage alternative for any business involved with the planning, deployment and management of a security infrastructure and in need increasing data protection whilst reducing deployment costs.
"We recognize the need for cost-effective, a high-performance, enterprise class storage system targeted specifically to the needs of today’s data-intensive video security surveillance market," said Moshe Ovadya, president and chief executive officer of Aberdeen LLC. "The new AberSAN V30 provides the bandwidth and scalability necessary to support any size surveillance deployment, whether in a campus, municipality, casino and many other environments. Aberdeen provides a strong combination of; unlimited scalable storage, customization, high-performance with an aggressive price point."
The new AberSAN V30 offers systems integrators, VARs, and distributors involved in the implementation of security systems, storage fluency in project management. Aberdeen brings enterprise class unified storage capabilities with virtualization to the video surveillance industry without the pesky vendor lock-in, while delivering storage management functionality with a particular focus on virtualized environments. Certain enterprise class features necessary for reliable video data protection include; unlimited snapshots, deduplication, replication, high availability, thin provisioning and scale-out storage capabilities.
Aberdeen partner Nexenta Systems, in open storage solutions, has integrated its NexentaStor software, a ZFS-based enterprise grade storage platform, into the AberSAN V30. One of several benefits brought to the IP SAN video storage industry via the ZFS file system, is RAID-Z. This robust RAID architecture provides a level of virtually unlimited hard disk drive parity for protecting against disk failures along with an inherent self healing disk drive RAID feature. Along with a five-year warranty, the AberSAN also is available for HA clustering and complete fault tolerance to combat points of failure.
"The physical security market, as a whole is experiencing significant growth and a fundamental transition from analog to digital surveillance technologies," Jason Yoho, VP of Business Development at Nexenta Systems said. "We believe that Aberdeen is uniquely positioned to deliver an IP SAN storage solution designed to provide near limitless scalability by leveraging NexentaStor enterprise features like; inherent virtualization, unlimited storage arrays, unlimited snap-shots, thin provisioning and hybrid storage pooling. We are excited to be bringing the much needed benefits of ZFS to the security storage industry."
Availability, Pricing and Support:
The AberSAN V30 is designed as an enterprise grade scalable video storage solution with a starting MSRP of under $20,000 and a cost/TB around $600/TB. All Aberdeen products feature a 5-year limited warranty as well as a free 30-day trial assessment program with all of its branded servers.
Product Details
ZFS Shared Storage Platform:
- Offers unlimited storage capacities
- Unlimited volume support providing non-disruptive volume grow/shrink
- Each AberSAN V30 can scale to 1000s of Petabytes of Fibre and/or iSCSI storage (up to 16 Exabyte in a single volume)
- Thin Provisioning: allows storage capacity to be allocated to the AberSAN, on a just-enough and just-in-time basis. Basically plug-n-play storage expansion
Disk Protection with ZFS RAID-Z Provides:
- Unlimited RAID Parity configurations yielding any desired level of parity drives, yielding user specific tolerance to simultaneous HDD failures
- Self-healing storage array: when an HDD failure is predicted, user-set policies facilitate preemptively migrating the data to other HDDs, which eliminates or mitigates the need for RAID reconstruction, basically known as No-Maintenance RAID arrays.
