StorSimple 5000 and 7000 Hybrid Cloud Storage Appliances VMware Ready

StorSimple announced updates to its 5000 and 7000 series of appliances to support enterprise class cloud storage in virtualized application environments. New features include VMware Ready certification and significant upgrades that customers require for deploying hybrid cloud virtualized environments in the areas of high-availability, disaster recovery, performance, item level recovery and platform support.

StorSimple’s hybrid cloud appliance simplifies traditional data storage by combining an appliance with cloud storage and integrated management software, meaning organizations can remove the traditional infrastructure and replace it with StorSimple and the cloud.

Features of the updated StorSimple appliances include:

• VMware Ready Certification – The 5000 and 7000 enterprise class hybrid cloud storage appliances are now certified for VMware Virtual Machine and Virtual Desktop environments.
• Enterprise Class Cloud Storage High-Availability – Non-disruptive upgrades to a live StorSimple hybrid cloud storage appliance and multi-cloud volume support, enabling RAID across multiple clouds.
• Live Disaster Recovery Testing and Global Validation – Live Cloud Snapshots and Cloud Clones can be remotely mounted to regularly test disaster recovery procedures from either a primary data center or any remote office connected to the cloud without the need for tape.
• Incremental Snapshot Geo-Replication – Cloud Snapshot replication with incremental, deduplicated block distribution enables a remote site to offer instant access to a pre-mounted Cloud Snapshot for Disaster Recovery, using the infrastructure of the cloud as opposed to a dedicated WAN.
• Instant Restores from Cloud Snapshots – Combined Snapshot and Cloud Snapshot block preferential technology offers the protection of the cloud with instant online local restore performance.
• Application Optimized Item Level Recovery for SharePoint and Exchange – Following the individual file level recovery available with Cloud Snapshots and Cloud Clones the StorSimple Data Restore Console extends this to SharePoint and Exchange. It offers a simple graphical way to restore individual lists or documents in the case of SharePoint and individual mailboxes or emails in the case of Exchange.
• Integrated Data Protection for VMware, Linux, Windows and Mac – Following the previously released Microsoft VSS compatible snapshots, StorSimple now offers Cloud Snapshots and Cloud Clones for all VMware hosts including Linux. Mac iSCSI initiator support is also supported.
• Cloud Thin-Provisioning with up to 100TB Volumes – Improving manageability for file servers and backup target applications.

These updates to the StorSimple 5000 and 7000 series of appliances will be available on April 15.
