Reinier de Graaf Opts for “Infrastructure as a Service” from Proact

For the next five years

The Reinier de Graaf Hospital has just signed an agreement to establish an ‘IT infrastructure as a service’ with Databasement, which became part of Proact in January 2011. Under this agreement Reinier de Graaf has for the next five years secured itself a hosted and managed server and storage infrastructure based in two secure data centres.

The services which will be provided are primary storage, archiving and backup. Proact is also responsible for the server infrastructure and is supplying managed virtual server and workstation capacity based on the virtualisation technology of VMWare. With data replication between the data centres the hospital also has the option of switching to a second location.

Receiving services on the basis of ‘Infrastructure as a Service’ (IaaS) offers the hospital flexibility and scalability as regards its IT infrastructure. Instead of investing in its own hardware Reinier de Graaf will receive managed services with availability guarantees.

A feature of this solution is that all the services are procured on a ‘pay per use’ basis. With set and foreseeable monthly costs the hospital can keep control of its IT costs. This cooperation essentially relieves Reinier de Graaf of any work relating to IT infrastructure.

Tjeerd Bloembergen, formerly Managing Director of Databasement and now Director for Business Unit Benelux & Spain Proact Group, is happy with the agreement: "This agreement confirms that not only Netherlands business, but also the hospital world is ready for a solution like ‘infrastructure as a service’. It’s no longer utopian to think of getting your IT infrastructure in the same way as getting water from a tap."
