SMEStorage Supports Visual Versioning
For its SaaS Cloud File Server
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on March 30, 2011 at 3:04 pmSMEStorage announced support for visual versioning of files in the web platform for their SaaS Cloud File Server offering, which enables small businesses to replace their office file server with one that resides in the cloud. This enables them to choose which storage provider, or combination of storage providers they wish to interact with.
Visual versioning has been added to the web application to identify and manage files that have been edited or changed by users of the Cloud File Server.
CEO Ian Osborne commented: "We’ve done a lot of work on enhancing our collaboration features for users of our Cloud File Server SaaS platform. The Cloud File Server admin can manage whether files versioning is turned on or off, and can also choose whether versioned files are visible in desktop and mobile clients."
"With regards to visual versioning, this is an enhancement we have made in the web application so that users can easily identify which files are versioned, and if they choose to, even easily promote previous versions of files."
"If a file is promoted then all user comments attached to the file being replaced move to the file that is promoted so that there is consistency."
Osborne continued by commenting on the multi-cloud aspects of the platform: "Also remember that versioning works on files above any of the numerous storage clouds that are supported by the SMEStorage platform. This means that the same files shared between organisations and stored on different storage clouds can still be tracked and versioned as if they resided on the same data service."
Osborne finished by saying: "We will have some exciting new announcements to make soon about more work we are doing to enhance our SaaS File Server platform which continues to be an open Cloud platform and not restricted to working with single Cloud data silos."
The visual versioning feature is available now for all existing, and new, users of the SMEStorage SaaS Cloud File Server platform.
