Cloud Services Provider AcXess Using DataCore SANsymphony

Combining storage virtualization and Hyper-V

At Microsoft Management Summit 2011 in Las Vegas, DataCore Software announced that cloud services provider AcXess Inc. is using DataCore’s SANsymphony software to create a dynamic, resilient virtual storage infrastructure that cost-effectively supports the company’s Microsoft Hyper-V server virtualization environment and its business model.

AcXess has built its business around flexible virtualization technologies designed to meet the needs of key customers such as Microsoft who rely on AcXess to provide reasonably priced services such as on-demand sales demos, proof-of-concept (POC) labs, and training sessions in virtualized environments to thousands of employees, partners, and customers. Leveraging the combination of Hyper-V and DataCore, AcXess has doubled the number of users year over year and has grown its business 300 percent, while saving $5 million in hardware costs.

"DataCore storage virtualization software has proven itself to be the ideal solution.  We run a number of large systems for Microsoft in the cloud today and it was a very logical choice to choose DataCore to run the SAN component of the AcXess V-Works platform," states Tom Elowson, president and co-founder of AcXess.  "The reason that we chose DataCore was the flexibility and cost savings we gained from their storage virtualization solution and the way that it worked within our system to provide very powerful experiences to accelerate revenue for Microsoft sales people and other clients around the world."

and DataCore Virtualization Software

DataCore’s SANsymphony software enables small- and medium-sized enterprises like AcXess to use their existing storage equipment and devices to achieve the robust and responsive shared storage infrastructure necessary to support dynamic virtual IT environments. This contrasts sharply with the alternative ‘rip and replace’ approach, which is often expensive and results in a rigid infrastructure that cannot adapt to future business needs.

AcXess V-Works is used by companies such as Microsoft and Citrix to deploy and manage hosted applications and workspaces. Microsoft’s global field and technical force sales teams use V-Works to demonstrate and sell Microsoft solutions to customers worldwide. AcXess V-Works uses DataCore SANsymphony for the virtual SAN and storage management needed to support more than 1,000 Microsoft Hyper-V-based virtual machines. Microsoft has thousands of registered employee-access users on V-Works running 25,000 virtual sessions per year and has logged more than 250,000 hours of enterprise quality demonstrations and V-labs on this platform.

and DataCore Storage Virtualization Saves Millions

To support growing and unpredictable customer usage demands, AcXess deployed DataCore’s SANsymphony storage virtualization software to increase the performance and scalability of its existing storage infrastructure.  SANsymphony created a virtualized storage environment providing critical functionality such as high-speed caching to boost performance, non-stop availability and space efficient thin provisioning for dynamic capacity allocation.

"As a cloud service provider, AcXess’ client workloads and storage demands are highly unpredictable.  To accommodate the changing needs of their customers, they require flexibility in terms of performance, reliability and scalability," said George Teixeira, president and CEO of DataCore Software. "DataCore’s storage virtualization software enables companies like AcXess to save money, time and effort so they can focus on delivering best-value pricing and driving their services performance and reliability – the three biggest reasons customers keep coming back."
