FC Adapter Port Shipments Surge to Highest Level Ever in 4Q10
Emulex gains share three quarters in a row, said Dell'Oro.
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 24, 2011 at 3:33 pmIn a newly released report by Dell’Oro Group, Fibre Channel adapter shipments rose 15 percent quarter to quarter to eclipse 900 thousand ports, the highest level it ever attained.
"The Fibre Channel market appears to have returned to end-of-year strength which is the typical seasonal pattern in a healthy economy," said Tam Dell’Oro President of Dell’Oro Group. "Many server manufacturers have announced very strong quarters, and Fibre Channel adapter sales generally pattern those of servers. What really took us by surprise was the magnitude of Fibre Channel strength. We expected more users to shift to Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), particularly in blade server chassis, but it didn’t happen," added Dell’Oro.
The vendor share report reflects the degree to which Fibre Channel adapter sales were bolstered by 8 Gbps adapters, and shows that Emulex consistently grew its share of Fibre Channel adapter market sales over the past three quarters.
