Riverbed Receives EMC E-Lab Qualification

For RecoverPoint

Riverbed Technology announced that the Riverbed Steelhead appliance has received EMC E-Lab qualification for EMC RecoverPoint, the solution for network-based data protection and disaster recovery.

This qualification will enable Riverbed and EMC customers to build solutions to improve their data protection initiatives. In addition, this relationship signifies the continued commitment by Riverbed and EMC to joint customers in removing huge amounts of repetitive data from the wide area network (WAN) to accelerate DR processes while reducing overall IT costs.

IT organizations at globally connected enterprises are charged with delivering highly efficient and secure IT, while still providing a rich experience to end users at the edge. Riverbed improves WAN performance for a wide range of applications, and the Riverbed solution scales from individual remote workers to small branch offices to the biggest data centers. Riverbed products provide a comprehensive approach to application acceleration and disaster recovery across the WAN. Enterprises with strategic data protection initiatives are leveraging Steelhead appliances to accelerate back-up, disaster recovery, replication and storage consolidation processes. In addition, Riverbed is extending its acceleration and deduplication capabilities to cloud storage with the Whitewater appliance, which provides organizations with a fast, secure and cost-efficient method to integrate cloud storage into their existing backup infrastructure and disaster recovery strategies, without sacrificing security. Today, more than 8,700 enterprises worldwide, across a wide range of markets, depend on Riverbed for easy to deploy and manage solutions to understand, optimize and consolidate their IT infrastructure.

EMC RecoverPoint enables enterprises to centralize and simplify their disaster recovery requirements, providing both local continuous data protection (CDP) and continuous remote replication (CRR) to recover from many potential failure scenarios. Combined with the Steelhead appliances, enterprises can improve their recovery point and recovery time objectives (RPO/RTO) and minimize network costs by overcoming the performance constraints of the WAN, including limited bandwidth, high latency, congestion and packet loss.

"The Riverbed Steelhead appliances combined with EMC RecoverPoint enables us to simplify our IT infrastructure and reduce our bandwidth costs associated with replicating over our WAN, ensuring that data is protected and business is never interrupted," said George Tilmon, supervisor IT operations at G&T Conveyor Company Inc., the largest privately-held turnkey baggage handling systems manufacturer in the United States. "This affords us the ability to improve DR performance while still accelerating file sharing and email to our distributed design teams without purchasing additional bandwidth."

Riverbed has a longstanding relationship with EMC to deliver storage and WAN optimization solutions. This announcement adds RecoverPoint to the family of technologies qualified by Riverbed and EMC, including EMC SRDF/A (Symmetrix Remote Data Facility/Asynchronous) for both Symmetrix VMAX and Symmetrix DMX, EMC MirrorView/A, EMC Celerra Replicator and EMC SAN Copy. Riverbed is also part of the EMC Select Program, which enables EMC to resell Steelhead appliances.

"Riverbed continues to work closely with EMC to ensure organizations are assured more reliable data protection that lowers the costs associated with back-up and replication while helping streamline IT operations," said Venugopal Pai, vice president of alliances at Riverbed. "Qualification of Steelhead appliances with EMC RecoverPoint is an additional advantage for enterprises in overcoming the challenges of data protection throughout the distributed enterprise."
