For rackmount servers and AMD platform server motherboards
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on January 27, 2011 at 2:54 pmPROMISE Technology Inc. announced its Software ROMB (RAID on Motherboard) solution has been adopted by ASUSTeK Computer Inc. to provide servers and motherboards a high-reliability RAID solution. ASUS chose PROMISE’s ROMB solution for its new series of rack mount servers (RS500A/RS700DA/RS704DA) and several AMD platform server motherboards.
The PROMISE Software ROMB solution supports the AMD SP5100 chipset, providing a quick-to-adopt solution for AMD SP5100 platforms to include the RAID functionalities.
PROMISE has been devoted to developing RAID technology for more than 22 years, and has shipped more than 16 million products with PROMISE RAID engines worldwide. The PROMISE RAID engine is used in storage subsystems and RAID controllers across a range of global companies.
Apart from many achievements in the development and delivery of storage subsystems and RAID controller cards, PROMISE is announcing their SW ROMB solution with support for AMD, who has long been a technology pioneer in the motherboard chipset field. The PROMISE ROMB solution provides OEM customers and motherboard manufacturers a solution for RAID.
"The PROMISE Software ROMB solution provides server and motherboard manufactures a quick-to-adopt RAID solution, which can accelerate the developing process of RAID-inside motherboards. Partnership with ASUS on the AMD platform can assure ASUS the ability to provide the high-reliability, high-performance RAID to ASUS server users all over the world," says Alice Chang, Chief Marketing Officer of PROMISE Technology.
"ASUS applies PROMISE’s software ROMB products on a series of rack-mounted servers and a variety of server motherboards, which helps customers meet different and diverse application requirements on next-generation AMD server platforms. ROMB software provides greater benefit to ASUS customers, managing fast-growing data and digital content maintenance efforts and enhancing ASUS server products with higher reliability and performance", said Andrew Lynn, Senior Director, Server Business Unit, Austen Computer Inc.
The PROMISE Software ROMB solution offers a cost-effective option for implementing a RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5 or RAID 10 storage system with up to six ports of the South Bridge supported high-performance Serial ATA disk drives. PROMISE Technology is a provider of Serial ATA interface and RAID solutions, and with software ROMB, users can benefit from PROMISE’s experience in maximizing Serial ATA storage system performance.
PROMISE Software ROMB incorporates many of PROMISE Technology’s features. The PROMISE RAID Option ROM Menu provides a way to setup RAID mode and drive assignment. The Web-based RAID Management Utility (WebPAM) provides users easy installation, configuration and operation. Hot-Swapping and Hot-Spares simplify disaster recovery efforts, by enabling migration to replacement hardware.
The PROMISE SW ROMB solution also provides a range of OS support, including Windows server 2003, 2008, 2008 R2, Home Server, Redhat Linux 4.8/5.4 and SUSE Linux 10 SP3/11. With the multi-OS driver and utility support, the PROMISE ROMB solution can accelerate the deployment process of OEMers and motherboard manufacturers.
