Paragon Software Introduces NTFS and HFS+ for Android

Eliminating interoperability between Windows or Mac and Android devices

Paragon Software Group (PSG) announced the addition of Paragon NTFS and HFS+ for Android to its series of universal file system drivers created to tackle the incompatibilities of multimedia and computer systems with NTFS or HFS+ formatted portable storage devices.

Paragon NTFS and HFS+ for Android provides a solution to the challenges of developing embedded systems using the open-source Android platform, such as the design and manufacture of next-generation handheld media players, digital video, smart handheld devices and other portable products.

Delivering high-performance file transfer rates, Paragon NTFS and HFS+ for Android was developed to enable Android-based devices to use storage media formatted by Mac OS and Windows operating systems, thus allowing end users to access stored content that was inaccessible to FAT32 storage media file systems, which capped file size at 4GB – not enough to hold a single DVD movie, let alone one of High-Definition Video or Blu-ray quality.  Increasing demand by end users to access a wide range of multimedia and data content from portable storage devices has prompted Paragon to extend its specialized Universal File System Driver (UFSD) technology offerings.

"The challenge in expanding Android-based technology into other segments of the consumer electronics market has centered around interoperability issues, with huge potential wins for Android," says Konstantin Komarov, Paragon Software CEO. "Paragon’s support for NTFS and HFS+ under Android solves the file system incompatibility to help spur growth in an entirely new range of applications. We believe that issue-free interoperability with the worlds of Windows and Mac provided by Paragon NTFS and HFS+ for Android will help vendors of Android devices widen into new markets."

With its focus on cross-platform technologies for operating systems and embedded kernels, Paragon is recognized as the software developer to provide read/write access between incompatible file systems.

The new NTFS and HFS+ for Android is based on Paragon’s UFSD technology, which was developed to provide high performance access (read/write, format, etc.) to volumes of the most popular file systems (NTFS, FAT, Ext2/3FS, etc.) under various platforms (Android, Windows, Mac, Linux, DOS, etc.) where these file systems normally are not supported. NTFS and HFS+ for Android allows silicon chip designers and manufacturers of automotive and home multimedia centers, as well as other mobile and embedded devices, to make their products more user-friendly and meet the market demand for high performance access to large data files, such as HD video.

Key Features include:

  • Full read/write access: Existing files can be read, modified or deleted, while new files can be created or copied.
  • Easy to use: Mount any NTFS or HFS+partition like a native one – no need to perform special commands to get access.
  • Non-Roman characters and languages: File and folder names in national languages, including Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Russian.
  • No system degradation during data transfers.
  • No limitation to maximum file/partition size.
