Sandberg Presents USB 3.0 Range

USB 3.0 is a full 10 times faster than USB 2.0, which is still considered to be pretty fast. Higher resolutions on digital cameras, HD video recordings and the general rapid increase in data volumes demand ever greater data speeds. Sandberg A/S‘s new range of USB 3.0 products delivers the goods.

There are already USB 3.0 hard disk boxes on the market, but you cannot get the benefit from them without a computer with a USB 3.0 port. On the other hand, there are also computers with USB 3.0 ports that you cannot get the full benefit from without having some USB 3.0 equipment that you can connect. This makes cables more important than ever before. It is impossible to achieve full USB 3.0 speed if you do not use USB 3.0 cables.

Sandberg’s new range contains all the elements needed to get the things you are missing and start using super-fast backup. Everything is  high quality. That’s important if you want to increase the speed.

Anders Petersen, Product Manager at Sandberg A/S, explains: "Consumers are used to speeds continuously increasing. In the technical hinterland, however, there are many challenges that have to be met before you can release a product onto the market with a five-year warranty. It has to be 100% perfect. And 5 Gbit/s is quite a feat. The USB 3.0 standard is great to work with, because it’s really fast. And yet it is just as easy for consumers to use as pretty much everything else involving USB, which most computer users are accustomed to."

Asked whether there are any pitfalls, the product manager replies: "Perhaps no direct pitfalls for consumers. But it is important to note that a USB 3.0 Hard Disk Box cannot operate faster than the hard disks in use. So we hope that everyone gets the message about cables, which are so important to USB 3.0. You actually have to use authentic USB 3.0 cables to achieve full speed, otherwise the controllers will automatically reduce the speed. You won’t lose any data, but you will lose speed if you don’t use the right cables."

The range currently consists of a USB 3.0 controller card for desktop computers, USB 3.0 cables and the aforementioned USB 3.0 Hard Disk Box. The last of these is initially being released in a 3.5" version, but a 2.5" version will follow soon after.
