Synology Rackmount NAS for SMBs

Synology America announced the RackStation RS411. The new RackStation offers improved performance over its predecessor (RackStation RS409) with about 25% faster read and write speeds with a minor price increase. Priced under $800, it offers an affordable rack-mount solution for offices.

Using 3TB drives, the new RackStation supports up to 12TB storage in a 1U rack-mount configuration. The storage can be configured in a variety of volume types, including Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) for automated volume management.

"This RackStation model offers an excellent value to small businesses," said Joshua Wise, a Senior Product Specialist at Synology America. "Between its upfront price/performance ratio, and its energy-saving design, it is built to save businesses money."

In addition to its reasonable pricing and low energy consumption, the RS411 comes with Synology’s DiskStation Manager (DSM) 3.0. DSM 3.0 offers a browser-based interface to minimize the learning curve.

DSM 3.0 also brings an integrated feature set for business users. Enhanced iSCSI support (including MPIO and MC/S) allows for integration with VMWare, Hyper-V, and Xen Server environments without the cost and complexity of a SAN (storage area network). ADS integration allows use of existing domain users and groups for domains up to 100,000 users and groups. Access control lists (ACLs) allow file-level privilege control using NTFS-style permissions.

Businesses can also benefit from the included Surveillance Station 5, which allows the RackStation to function as an NVR solution, supporting up to twelve IP channels. Surveillance Station 5 offers a unified interface to over 700 models of IP camera.
