300 Companies Use SMEStorage Organisation Cloud

Launched mid-2010

The SMEStorage Organisation Cloud offering which was launched mid-2010 has proved successful with over 300 companies now using the service. The service features no lock-in as it enables Organisation to decide which file storage they wish to use as well as supporting file storage combinations.

Companies from as little as 3 users up to companies as large as 250 users are using the SMEStorage FileServer in the Clouds Software-as-a-Service based offering to either replace or augment their traditional on-premise based File Server.

The Organisation Cloud does not lock companies into silo’d storage offerings, enabling them flexibility to choose which storage providers they wish to use with the service. A combination of storage providers can also be used, such as Amazon S3 or RackSpace Cloud Files with Google Docs for example.

Also, combinations of public / private storage can be used. Organisation can choose to add their internal storage for access using FTPS or WebDav, and also compliment this using public storage, such as Amazon S3. On-Premise storage can also be ‘paired’ with public storage so that files are always backed up. This also can be done between public cloud providers.

Amongst the  features
The Organisation Cloud offering supports are:

  • User Domain Management;
  • Access Control Lists for user management;
  • File and Comment Notifications;
  • Organisation Public Folders;
  • Business Group Collaboration Options, Secure File Sharing, Public/Private Key Encryption.

"We are offering small to medium businesses the chance to remove their IT pressures," stated CEO Ian Osborne. "As well as a web interface, users of the service can bring the Cloud to their desktop as we provide Virtual Cloud Drives and Sync tooling for Windows, Mac and Linux Operating Systems. Also for Road Warriors, all major mobile devices are supported, including iPad, iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and certain Nokia handsets."

Osborne finished with saying: "If you want to move your File Server to the Cloud to make IT support/access easier, if you have distributed teams, or if you want all to do is to cloud enable a local File Server, then the SMEStorage Organisation Cloud offering should be of interest to you."
