This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 9, 2010 at 2:58 pmThe IBM Real-time Compression Software V3.7 for SAS and SATA systems from IBM Corp. is designed to compress CIFS/NFS data up to 80% when used in conjunction with the IBM Real-time Compression Appliance (2452 Model 650 or Model 680).
IBM Real-time Compression Software V3.7 for SAS and SATA Systems uses Random Access Compression Engine (RACE) technology which enables data compression to be:
- Real-time to ensure no performance degradation
- Random access to help prevent impact to downstream processes such as data deduplication
The IBM Real-time Compression Software V3.7 is made up of three components:
- Compression Engine: Enables data compression without compromising performance
- Unified Protocol Manager (UPM): Enables transparent support of multiple storage and network protocols, including CIFS and NFS
- Monitoring and Reporting Manager (MRM): Enables online storage compression management and reporting
The IBM Real-time Compression Software V3.7.0 for SAS and SATA Systems require one or more of the following.
