Save The Children Data UK Saved by Asigra
And Databarracks
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 3, 2010 at 2:48 pmAsigra Inc. released details of how its partner Databarracks, provider of secure online backup services, has helped charity organisation Save the Children UK manage its data lifecycle and implement a new disaster recovery plan for its 20TB of data with cloud backup.
Save the Children raises more than £200 million every year to help young people worldwide lead safer, better lives. The UK-based charity undertakes work in areas such as education, nourishment, healthcare and protection; current projects include helping victims of the Haitian earthquake and children in war-torn regions like Afghanistan. With a sizeable amount of data and applications, including finance systems, communications, and numerous databases, ensuring that these are always up and running is a time-consuming job, and the charity needed a new, more cost-effective strategy that would ideally require fewer in-house resources.
Save the Children needed to find a service provider that would manage the organisation’s data lifecycle from start to finish, from backup to recovery, and from live data to archive. The legacy tape system was difficult to test effectively and made locating data too slow; after the thorough evaluation of several options the IT team chose Asigra Cloud Backup from Databarracks as it promised a minimal-risk course of action and offered the agentless enterprise-grade software required to support the vast amounts of data and its users.
Peter Groucutt, managing director at Databarracks, said: "We know that Asigra Cloud Backup can provide exactly what the charity needs: it is a solution that delivers on all levels, from reliability to cost. Save the Children’s Data Recovery plan is now taken care of by data protection professionals 24/7 and we are proud to have been a part of this significant development."
"Thanks to Asigra and Databarracks we now have a backup solution that is tailored to our needs; one that requires minimal human intervention and that is financially viable. As a result we have been able to move some much-needed funds to other areas and projects where resources can be put to better use," says Duncan Wood, Server Manager at Save the Children.
With Asigra Cloud Backup data recovery is now almost instantaneous, easy to manage and reliable. For an organisation that places great significance on building strong relationships the personal account manager provided by Databarracks is an element of the solution, especially as dedicated one-to-one support is invaluable for the charity.
Amrita Chandra, Senior Director for Corporate Marketing at Asigra, said: "The new Save the Children’s backup and recovery strategy will allow the team to continue to work well into the future without having to worry about its backup and disaster recovery plan; Asigra Cloud Backup has already eliminated many concerns for this organisation and I am confident that the product’s flexibility together with the great service of Databarracks can deal with any new issues that may arise."
