Glyph PortaGig 62 Portable RAID With Two HDDs

$309 for 1TB model

Glyph Production Technologies will begin shipping its new portable RAID-protected storage device, the PortaGig 62, following the AES show, the second week of November. Modeled after Glyph’s GT 062E, a larger desktop RAID, the PortaGig 62 has two 5400 or 7200RPM drives inside, and is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. A quiet internal fan provides airflow and proper cooling.

Bus-powered with FireWire 800, the PortaGig 62 also includes USB and eSATA ports for optimum compatibility, allowing to work on the road with a reliable RAID. Although eSATA is not a bus-powered interface, you can use the eSATA connection for the fastest data transfer speeds (up to 177MB/s) while simultaneously using the FireWire 800 connection to bus-power the drive. An external power supply is included with the PortaGig 62 if bus-power is insufficient or not available.

PortaGig 62 is available in capacities ranging from 320GB to 1TB, and prices range from $269 MAP for the 320GB model, to $309 MAP for the 1TB model.

PortaGig 62 can be configured in one of three drive modes: RAID 0, RAID 1, and spanning. It also includes Glyph Manager, which constantly monitors the drives, and reports their health to you. If a problem is detected, the front LED will blink red, and Glyph Manager software will alert you on screen, allowing you to backup your data before any is lost.

As with all Glyph drives, the PortaGig 62 carries a support plan: 3-year warranty, 2-year Free Basic Data Recovery Policy, and 1-year Advance Replacement (Continental 48 States).

PortaGig 62 was on display at the AES Show, San Francisco, November 5th – 7th with Vintage King Audio and with Tac System, Inc.
