actidata Extends LTO-5 Range

actidata GmbH is broadening its range of tape automation systems and has announced the availability of LTO-5 Half Height Fibre Channel (FC) products. The libraries with two, four and eight units of height along with the autoloader with just one unit are now available with the LTO-5 FC and the SAS interface with 8 Gb and 6 Gb respectively.

To date, actidata’s product range has also included LTO-5 products with half height, only however in connection with Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) products. The new systems with LTO-5 technology achieve high data transmission rates, even over long distances thanks to the Fibre Channel connector.  

"A Fibre Channel connector supports different types of network structure and that provides a great deal of flexibility for scaling to the needs of small and large systems and expanding tape automation systems applications to include RAID and offsite storage. In a SAN (Storage Area Network) where large amounts of stored data have to be transferred and realtime data backups are necessary, Fibre Channel is a standard feature, " Heiko Wippich, Product Manager at actidata, explains the further advantages of FC technology. "With the LTO 5 HH systems we are in a position to offer this technology at an especially attractive price as half height drives are significantly less expensive than the full height version."

The actiLib Autoloader 1U LTO-5 FC costs €4,349 and actiLib Libraries 2U, 4U und 8U with FC are priced at €5,605, €7,604 and €11,427 respectively.
