Nimbus Demos S-class 2U SSD-Only Storage Systems, Starting at $25,000

"IO performance comparable to 2,080 15,000rpm HDDs"

Nimbus Data Systems Inc. will showcase its next-generation enterprise flash storage systems at Storage Expo Netherlands at the Jaarbeurs Utrecht, November 3-4.

Nimbus is exhibiting its S-class flash storage systems that leverage the speed, efficiency and comprehensive software of NAND flash technology and Nimbus’ HALO operating system to deliver up to 24x greater storage performance and 90 percent lower energy usage than traditional disk-based arrays, delivering 6,000 IOps per watt and up to 675,000 IOps per floor tile.

One S-class shelf, consuming a mere 80 W and 2U of rack space, delivers uncached IO performance comparable to 2,080 15K rpm drives that would require 8 full datacenter racks and 37,000 W of power, enabling organizations to aggressively reclaim rackspace and reign in energy costs. With available integrated inline deduplication and compression, S-class systems further reduce the storage footprint of virtual machines by up to 10:1, achieving capacity density up to 25 TB per U of rack space, an 8x improvement over typical 15K rpm drive arrays.

"As green compliance standards continue to make power and cooling concerns a key issue at enterprises and datacenters today, there is still a need to maintain the upper hand on nonstop data growth without sacrificing performance," said Thomas Isakovich, Nimbus CEO. "Enter Nimbus’ line of Sustainable Storage solutions that provide companies with blazing application performance via NAND technology that also plays well with the environment, helping minimize energy usage and costs.  Attendees at Storage Expo Netherlands will get a peek at the future of storage that simplifies management and dramatically reduces datacenter operating costs."

Nimbus provides storage for enterprise-wide virtualization, VDI deployments, databases and OLTP, and other IO-intensive HPC and rich media applications, including data mining and data warehousing, seismic data processing for the energy market, astrophysical, biotech, and genomics analysis and medical imaging. Service providers building public and private cloud computing services, such as VMs and storage on-demand, can now do so with a flash-based platform that offers high capacity and 90 percent lower energy, cooling, and rackspace costs than traditional 15K rpm disk arrays. The Nimbus HALO storage operating system, standard on all S-class systems, provides snapshots, replication, deduplication, and multi-protocol SAN and NAS functionality out of the box for complete enterprise storage management.
