Based on FileTek’s StorHouse platform, the Integrated Seismic Data Store project will enable oil and gas companies to store, back up, automatically manage, and, most importantly, access all seismic data types – raw through post-stack – in a timely manner with ensured data integrity and availability throughout their useful lifecycle.

StorHouse is a scalable, storage virtualization and data management platform that can archive, retrieve, administer, and protect massive amounts of relational and file-based information using an automatically managed pool of traditional and alternative storage devices such as disk and high-performance/high-density tape. Organizations deploy StorHouse for active archives, database extension systems, digital preservation initiatives, and native file format backups of terabytes to petabytes of unstructured data residing on operational systems.

Furthermore, unlike traditional archive repositories, StorHouse eliminates the need to restore data from tape to disk prior to access, thereby enabling direct, SQL access to all seismic survey data from any media, including tape. By eliminating the reload step, StorHouse promotes a faster time to data, optimizes data availability and accessibility, and reduces overall operational expenses.

William P. Loomis, CEO of FileTek, remarked: "FileTek is excited to work with the Westheimer team on the Integrated Seismic Data Store project. With our combined expertise in data management and oil and gas industry requirements, we are well-positioned to deliver a centralized, long-term, bulk data repository and storage management solution meeting the needs of the oil and gas market. Together, FileTek and Westheimer are setting a new precedent for excellence and performance for seismic data stores."

Jeffrey Maskell, CEO and Senior Consultant for Petrotechnical Data at Westheimer Energy Consultants, commented: "Using the FileTek StorHouse solution as an integrated seismic data store has been one of my long-term goals, and Westheimer is extremely pleased to be working with FileTek on this project. Using StorHouse to satisfy the stringent oil and gas industry specifications for storing and accessing seismic data is a natural fit that is already creating industry enthusiasm and positive feedback, particularly regarding the platform’s virtually unlimited scalability and low cost-per-megabyte of storage. Westheimer will also be working with other software vendors, including OpenSpirit, a TIBCO Software Inc. group, to ensure that the StorHouse seismic data store solution will readily connect with major E&P applications."
