Architect Registration Board Enhanced Data Protection and BC

As a result the ARB also improved staff productivity as the protection of its data is now outsourced to Asigra’s partner and provider of secure online backup services, Databarracks.

The Architects Registration Board is the body set up by the UK Parliament as the independent regulator of architects in the country; anyone who is described as an architect must be registered with the ARB. With a number of strict, statutory obligations to deliver to stakeholders that include over 33,000 architects, consumers, and schools of architecture, the ARB considers the uptime of its IT systems and the security of its data to be vital. A lack of confidence in its legacy backup systems, reliant on tape storage media and susceptible to human error, led the ARB to seek alternatives. An automated online backup solution appeared to be the most suitable to ensure that the Board’s IT environment and data were protected by a dependable, robust and cost-efficient service.

After researching prospective suppliers and reviewing its DR requirements, the ARB consulted Asigra’s partner Databarracks for guidance. The Board’s brief was clear, with one of the biggest challenges being the deployment of a system that would provide a high level of data security and that would integrate seamlessly with ARB’s Windows- and Linux- based platforms.

Databarracks proceeded to design, recommend and package a solution based around Asigra Cloud Backup, one that runs automatically, eliminates the need for the removal and storage of backup media and that enables the ARB to completely remove any human interaction and associated errors from the backup process. In addition the Asigra cloud-based solution encrypts data to military standards, meeting the customer’s need to top-level data security, while  backups of critical servers including File/Print, Exchange and SQL are now monitored round the clock by Databarracks.

Karen Holmes, ARB’s Deputy Registrar said: "As an organisation with limited IT resources, we were keen to outsource this important but often mundane and time-consuming process to dedicated professionals. Since the service was deployed, our IT staff has been less strained, allowing us to focus on adding value to the organisation as well as bolstering our Business Continuity. Like any other business, the financial implications of receiving an enterprise level of service might have raised a few eyebrows; but with Databarracks’ completely transparent, fixed monthly rate model, we have found it easy to build this into our expenditure plans. We find the service to be excellent value for money."

Ashar Baig, Senior Director of Product Marketing for Asigra, says: "Cloud-based services are increasingly popular due to their superior cost efficiency and ease of management, but finding the right fit for your needs can be a challenge for some end users. Databarracks helped the ARB all the way, levering the Asigra technology to design a bespoke solution that didn’t just improve the organisation’s data protection strategy but also its IT ROI and overall productivity."
