Sepaton Qualified for Symantec NetBackup OpenStorage API
For its VTLs
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on October 25, 2010 at 3:11 pmSEPATON, Inc. announced that its S2100-ES2 disk-based data protection appliance has been qualified as supporting Symantec NetBackup OpenStorage (OST) application programming interface (API).
SEPATON executives will discuss the unique capabilities of a combined NetBackup and SEPATON solution in enterprise data centers at the Symantec Worldwide Technical Symposium and Partner Tech Engage being held in Las Vegas October 25-28.
NetBackup OpenStorage enables administrators to manage key elements of SEPATON’s data protection solutions from within the NetBackup interface for streamlined administration and faster, more efficient data protection. Symantec OST enables advanced capacity management, data deduplication, streamlined storage lifecycle policy management, and the use of Ethernet network protocols.
SEPATON’s ability to support mixed Virtual Tape Library (VTL) and OST backup environments on a single system provides enterprise customers with unparalleled flexibility and the ability to take an approach to protecting their data. SEPATON delivers industry-leading backup performance and grid scalability that enterprises need to take full advantage of OST. The multi-node DeltaScale architecture scales up to eight nodes and more than 1.6 PB in a single system to eliminate server sprawl and reduce both administration and capital expenses.
"With this integration, enterprise customers can fully exploit the advanced features of both companies to manage large and growing data volumes quickly and cost-effectively," said Fidelma Russo, chief operating officer of SEPATON. "With SEPATON’s unique Storage Pooling capability and grid scalability, administrators can manage both virtual tape library and Symantec OST environments on a single system for administrative ease and simple migration to the new OST protocol."
"The successful partnership between SEPATON and Symantec offers enterprise customers a flexible and powerful solution for disk-based data protection," said Brian Dye, vice president of product management, Information Management Group, Symantec. "NetBackup, in combination with SEPATON’s intelligent data protection appliance and deduplication software, will enable customers to take a leap forward in management, simplicity and performance."
At the Symantec Worldwide Technical Symposium & Partner Tech Engage, SEPATON executives will present a session SPN236 titled, SEPATON: Fast, Efficient Strategies for Migrating to OST. Attendees will learn best practices for introducing OST into a Fibre Channel virtual tape library environment; set up a multi-protocol environment using storage pools to move existing backup environments to OST within a single system; and strategies for leveraging OST’s performance by aggregating existing servers with 1GbE interfaces to 10GbE.
