Toshiba New OEM for Tandberg Data RDX

To backup Magnia servers in Japan

Tandberg Data announced an agreement with Toshiba Corporation in which Tandberg Data will provide Toshiba with RDX removable disk devices to back up its line of MAGNIA servers (MAGNIA CT400 and MAGNIA LiTE41SE Servers are sold in Japan).

RDX removable disk backup devices allow small businesses to protect their data as well as move the data off-site as part of their disaster recovery plans.

"This new agreement with Tandberg Data is consistent with Toshiba’s goal to provide our customers with a variety of superior data storage systems to meet their growing backup and archiving requirements,” said Masahiro Sato, an executive in charge of PC Server Development Center of IP Network & Solution Dept. in Digital Products & Network Company of Toshiba Corporation. "We have just released the new products of IA server MAGNIA series; a compact tower called MAGNIA CT400 and one-way tower called MAGNIA LiTE41SE. We recommend a combination of these new products and RDX backup devices that offer high-speed backup at an affordable price. We are receiving positive feedback from customers. The upper range of MAGNIA series will follow, adding RDX backup devices."

"The integration of our RDX technology into Toshiba’s MAGNIA server line is a testimony to Toshiba’s ongoing pledge to bring innovative technology choices to their customers,” said Pat Clarke, CEO of Tandberg Data. "With more than 200,000 units shipped to date, Tandberg Data has rapidly become the standard in removable hard disk storage, bringing a reliable and easy-to-use data protection solution to the SMB customer.”

RDX technology is a disk-based removable storage system that consists of a docking bay and portable cartridges that offer rugged, reliable and convenient backup, ideal for the SMB market. The system combines the benefits of tape – reliability, portability, archive life and low cost – with the performance, speed, random access and ease of use of hard disk technology.

Toshiba customers can choose from a range of RDX cartridge capacities, including 160GB, 320GB and 500GB.

All RDX cartridges are removable for off-site storage, disaster recovery and archival applications. They are built to last more than 10 years with normal use. In addition, RDX technology offers a native 45MB/sec transfer rate that reduces the traditional backup window from hours to minutes. For example, it takes the RDX system less than an hour to backup 160GB of native data and milliseconds to access files. All future RDX cartridges will work in today’s RDX systems, providing long-term investment protection.

Tandberg Data has shipped more than 200,000 RDX QuikStor docks and more than 600,000 RDX cartridges worldwide in less than four years.
