The first chapter offers an introduction to virtualization concepts, and discusses why backup and management tools designed for traditional physical servers are not well suited to virtualized infrastructures. Later chapters will outline critical considerations in selecting the right backup and disaster recovery solutions for a VMware environment, including requirements, budgets, and issues such as disk vs. tape storage.

Each chapter will be posted for download as it is available. Those who register will be automatically notified as each new chapter is posted.

"Eric is a well-respected author and a Guru in the VMware VM support forums, so we think he’s an ideal person to help CIOs and IT managers better understand the critical issues around data protection and disaster recovery in a virtualized environment," said Doug Hazelman, Veeam Senior Director, Product Strategy. "While VMware administrators are close to these issues every day, those at higher levels in the organization can benefit from a succinct, readable discussion of disaster recovery methodologies, the unique requirements of a virtualized environment, and comparison criteria to help them choose the right solution for their specific situation."

E-book author Eric Siebert is an IT industry veteran, author and blogger with more than 25 years of experience, most recently specializing in server administration and virtualization. He is a very active member of the VMware VM support forums, where he’s attained the elite Guru status by helping others with their virtualization-related challenges. Siebert has published books including his most recent, Maximum vSphere, from Pearson Publishing, and has authored training videos in the Train Signal series. He also maintains his own VMware VI3 information website, vSphere-land, and is a regular feature article contributor on TechTarget’s SearchServerVirtualization and SearchVMware websites.
