SFF RAID by Infortrend

2U, 24 2.5-inch SAS HDDs, with FC, SAS or iSCSI host connectivity

Infortrend Technology Inc. announced the first small-form-factor (SFF) disk storage systems in the EonStor DS family with a 2U chassis accommodating twenty-four 2.5-inch disk drives. These new models provide an additional option for customers with a preference for SFF storage systems with high performance density.

The new EonStor DS models can house up to 24 6Gb/s SAS 2.5-inch hard disk drives in a compact 2U chassis, and come in either dual- or single-controller configurations. For storage area network (SAN) deployments, users can choose between the B24F models, featuring 8Gb/s Fibre Channel (FC) host connectivity, and the B24E models featuring 1GbE iSCSI host connectivity. For direct-attached storage (DAS) environments, the B24S models featuring 6Gb/s SAS host connectivity are the ideal choice. All EonStor DS SFF models can be connected to both large-form factor (LFF) and SFF expansion enclosures. In an installation of up to 144 drives, users can mix LFF and SFF, SAS and SATA drives, in order to meet application demands in the most cost-effective way.

In 2007, Infortrend became the first storage system vendor worldwide to launch SFF RAID systems, and the company has continued to develop and launch SFF-based systems since. With the newly-announced models, Infortrend’s SFF storage system line-up has become even more diverse allowing customers to choose the SFF system that best meets their performance, capacity, and scalability requirements.

In addition, all products in the EonStor DS family are designed to provide advanced data protection functionality. Storage-based snapshot and volume copy/mirror help SMBs achieve high availability for mission-critical applications. Users can create differential and full copies of critical data sets and leverage these copies to carry out quick-service restarts in the event that  the storage system is damaged.

Thomas Kao, director of product planning at Infortrend, said: "The new additions to our EonStor DS family diversify our SFF product portfolio, allowing SMB customers to benefit from solutions and technologies that until recently were only realistically available to larger enterprises. SMBs tend to have limited financial and footprint resources and our SFF RAID systems help them to make more efficient use of both."
