Stealthy Start-Up to Follow: SimpliVT

As its president is Doron Kempel, former CEO of Diligent.

According to a SEC filing, a new company named SimpliVT Corp., in stealth mode and without currently a web site, has wrapped up $9,189,000 in a second round of funding, after a first one being $1,012,500 last year.

We know about nothing about it. Apparently it is involved in software and defined itself as a Data Virtualization Company.

What is interesting here: this start-up, based in Waltham, MA was founded by a well-known storage entrepreneur, Doron Kempel, its president, a small and secret guy we met several times.

stealthy_startup_simplivt_kempel Kempel was chairman, CEO and co-founder (in 2002 with Moshe Yanai) of de-dupe firm Diligent Technologies Inc. until its acquisition by IBM for a reported $200 million in 2008 after getting a total of $46.5 million in financial funding. The former officer in the elite Israeli intelligence unit left EMC under difficult circumstances, with the firm ultimately suing him for breach of his non-compete clause when he left the company, in which he had served as VP and GM for the media solutions group from 1998 to 2001, before joining the start-up SANgate Systems. EMC would win the trial, and Kempel was obliged to leave SANgate, which went on to become Sepaton.
