Acronis and iland Debut Cloud DR Service
For SMBs
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 7, 2010 at 4:12 pmAcronis, Inc., provider of backup, recovery and security solutions for physical, virtual and cloud environments with cloud-computing infrastructure provider iland, announced a cloud-based disaster recovery service, Rapid-Response Cloud-based Business Continuity.
Disk images of mission-critical virtual and physical machines created by Acronis backup and recovery software are transported to the iland Internet Solutions’ Continuity Cloud and converted into standby virtual machines. In case of a disaster, an administrator working at an Acronis management console can initiate instant restorations of those machines in the cloud, allowing users to continue working without interruption.
Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Virtual Edition software provides the disk imaging and data protection software that carries out the backup and recovery processes. iland Internet Solutions’ cloud infrastructure built on VMware technology provides the local to remote datacenter linkage as well as the offsite disaster recovery infrastructure that allows Acronis backups of servers to be retained and be accessible as virtual machines in the cloud. Acronis’ centralized user interface controls both local and remotely located machines as if they were all in the same location.
"This new service allows Acronis to further expand the scope of its Windows and Linux data protection offerings to include another level of protection for businesses. It opens a door to a much higher level of availability than small and medium-size businesses could previously afford if they tried to build stand-alone business continuity capabilities," says Izzy Azeri, Acronis VP of Business and Corporate Development. "IT organizations can now meet stringent Recovery Time Objectives even in the face of a data center disaster, and return users to productivity with little delay under the most demanding circumstances. By partnering with iland, we’re now able to provide Acronis customers with recovery in the cloud."
"We’ve eliminated the bulk of the cost a company would incur in building, maintaining, and staffing a dedicated offsite data center by efficiently co-locating it in one of our several secure, state-of-the-art iland facilities," says Dante Orsini, iland’s VP of Business Development. "We have also driven down the cost of maintaining the virtual machines we host by taking advantage of Acronis Instant Restore technology, which doesn’t require the server to be active prior to the point it’s actually needed. It costs us much less to maintain them in that state and we pass on the savings to the customer."
This service is available immediately. Pricing is based on individual customer cloud storage requirements, and does require the customer to be using Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Server Virtual Edition on their server.
